I mean, I actually watched the game. In this highlight video alone Flagg scores on Carter directly 4 different times. Another time he beats him down the floor in transition and in another Carter threatens a double that Flagg splits. Like I said, 1-2 times he guarded him well in the very beginning of the game and then Flagg proceeded to score at will whether Carter was on him, in the vicinity or someone else had him. I'm a fan but it's clear the false narrative that he's some shutdown defender is already being promoted despite the facts
The facts:
8 points on Bryant on poor efficiency.
except those aren't facts. In the highlight video I provided (that doesn't even show all of Flagg's scoring btw just a half dozen or so) he literally scores on Bryant directly 4 times so how is he 3-12 per that laughable tweet? These ridiculous stats are always massaged to paint a narrative. They can claim he wasn't being guarded or was depending on what they want to show to establish a narrative. Like, if Bryant chooses to go under the screen and challenges the shot late and Flagg hits the three they can laughably claim Bryant wasn't the defender. Or they can count him being the defender if he weak side contests a layup as a help defender. It's really dumb.
When you have announcers telling people to ignore offense because his defense is so good you know they're just glazing big time. He's got potential to be a great defender. He's a good defender now. But they're talking about him like he's prime Kawhi. And offense has to come around or he's just going to be the next Thybulle, another guy they overrated on defense that doesn't get minutes because his offense is non-existent.
And yet *highlight* videos show full context? Lol ok.
Go ahead and find a one on one guarding stat that is wholly different. Let's say you're right by *highlight video* clips and it's 4-12 not 3-12. That's a marginal difference and you know it.
Commentator reactions is not what's being discussed. The actual play is. And to that end, Bryant did very well vs. Flagg and deserves credit for it and shows excellent potential.
But it's hard to take your analysis seriously when you praised Reed Sheppard for defensive nuances and pull back on Bryant, whose calling card to the league is D first.

Jakucionis looks like a total disaster, thus far.
Luka shattered the mold of European guards because he was a great athlete with size and creativity. The problem with most Non-Luka European guards is the lack of physicality. They don't have the athletic ability and the strength to really shed defenders without screens. As a result, there's significantly more pressure on them to take care of the ball.
Looks unplayable until he gets stronger.

Furphy honestly took his soul. Karma for Essengue for leaving the German playoffs early.
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

We always have nice summer league teams and g league teams. Shame it's never once translated.
this is out best SL team ever though. Of course, they're all 24 y/o so that helps. I really wish we were trading all the vets and rebuilding because I'd have more fun watching this SL team win 20 games and get a top 5 pick than the current starters win 38 and pick in the late lottery.
Yep. Carter/Ellis/Clifford/Murray/Sabonis/Raynaud >> Schroder/Monk/Lavine/DD/Sabonis. That lineup of vets makes me sick even typing it. What a horrendous assortment of players.

Today's Ron Holland vs. TJ Shannon matchup should be a lot of fun!

Impressed? Not particularly. He’s older and this is exactly how he should be playing against this level of competition.
Still ecstatic and he has shown obvious and expected growth. He and Black are going to be a huge pieces off the bench for the Magic.
However, I AM impressed with Jase. Extremely efficient, not a complete defensive liability and just knows how to play and doesn’t let his small stature affect him.
I’m hoping Orlando uses him more like Brunson (as the lead PG, but it seems as they’re currently using him like Izzo used him in Michigan).

I heard Jase was advanced stats darling in college. Maybe sometimes we overthink scouting, and maybe this guy is just good, small stature aside?
HIs wingspan (6'6) is crazy considering his height (6'0) . Definitely should help in overcome some of those vertical challenges.

yeah I get the love of size, etc. But sometimes players are just player.
Jase to me is a huge win for Orlando.

He's 6'.05" w/o shoe's. So close to 6'2" with shoes.ChuckChilly wrote:UcanUwill wrote:Magic_Johnny12 wrote:

True, I guess got used to listing players heights without shoes since people don't give Trae Young that grace

Still functionally probably +4.5" wingspan, which is good. A 6'6" wingspan is still not great. As a comparison, Lillard measured 6'2.75" in shoes with a wingspan of 6'7.75".
But the game isn't always a matter of inches...sometimes a player is a player. I'm stoked for Orlando fans, as I think Jase is going to be a nice, long-term fit for the Magic.

These refs need to be chewed out proper. There is no reason to go crazy with your whistle during a summer league game.

Wolves have more guys with NBA experience and are slowly putting this game away. Ron Holland trying to backpack, but that’s really not what he’s built to do. Still cool watching him try.
Also, Klintman needs to shoot the damn ball. This level of passive isn’t going to get you to the League.

Yep, as I mentioned...sometimes a game of inches isn't going to matter much. This just means that Lillard's probably got a wider torso than Jase, and perhaps Lillard's arms attach slightly lower to his body. I would argue that for guards standing reach is less important than wingspan, but it's this type of minutiae that aren't worth the quibble.
If Jase can shoot consistently and play with high feel, he'll be on an NBA roster for years...which is solid value for a 25th pick.
