Lot can change in a year, let alone two, let alone when we talk about kids still in highschool. And, are there really people concerned a draft is prohected to be weak, damn, people dont have problems.

Weak draft classes happen, they can't all be strong classes otherwise the word loses all its meaning.
Usually what happens is international talent picks up the slack. 2024 was a bad draft and we saw only 2 of the top 6 come from the NCAA.

As a fan, this is kinda the standard. If we're talking 2000 bad, we need to worry. If not...whatever.

Do we though?

We need to spend our time worrying that a draft class 2 years from now might be as bad as 2000 because…we simply cannot live with the fact that a draft class could be that bad?

The 2000 draft set the talent pool of the NBA back. it's imo a big reason why the early 00's were such a terrible era for basketball. So in terms of a summer thread...yes it's worth worrying about. You know...summer level worry. Not real world.

Yes, 1 bad draft set the whole NBA back

There was more to it. But that draft was historically bad. It had a real long lasting impact.

Are we talking "bad" like 2000 or 2024 or "bad" like 2016?

I don't really care, I'm just interested in reading what people think here.

Honestly, to me it feels very amusing when people react like the OP and/or the poll is some kind of personal insult, lol.

It seems like, the more time passes, the more reading comprehension gets left behind. People don't understand what a figure of speech is anymore. A hyperbole, for example.

Cheers, hope you're doing well over there!

Honestly hope that '27 is a weak draft which will give teams no excuse to "tank" ahead of it.

Unfortunately we are already stuck with teams who will be tanking for the '26 draft.

is that a 5alarm firestation or a Verizon default alert.

the question that came to mind is why should they worry about a bad draft class 2yrs from now.

like why should they worry if they don't get a 3 course meal in the kitchen line

all orgs ever do is wiggle waggle through a bad class and get ready for the next one

This is the single biggest issue the sport of basketball is facing right now. We are in big big big trouble.

I'm always skeptical of these "weak draft" claims. The 2011 draft was supposed to be the weakest since 2000; it ended up being incredibly solid.

If they are worried about 2027 draft… they should be fired. You have this season to worry about.

Agree that there's more chances for int'l guys to go higher, but I don't think they 'pick up the slack' since international prospect are 100% factored into the weakness or strength of a class. If 2027 had great international prospects and crap NCAA ones, that's what the headline would say instead of '2027 shaping up to be alarmingly bad class overall.'

Like in 2024, Risacher wasn't a bad prospect but he would've gone like #8 in many drafts, Sarr too. Those guys made the class stronger but they weren't nearly good enough as prospects to prevent it from being a weak class.

Also you slipped Ron Holland in as a non-NCAA guy but only 3 of the top 10 picks (and 4 of the top 20) in 2024 were real international (Risacher, Sarr, and T Salaun). That seems like it's more than usual--and I doubt Saluan would be top 10 in a better draft--but not too far out of the norm.

Same with 2016. It just wasn't loaded with highly touted 5 star freshmen.
