From just an optics standpoint

I don't think optics plays into it at all, honestly. The valuations are so massive now that optics are wayyyyy down the list.

Yeah, I don't blame you.

Honestly, I'm surprised that there we're even some Sonics fans that adopted Portland as their team given the rivalry.

But as time goes by, you learn to live without it. Spend more time on other hobbies. It obviously would be great to have the Sonics back. But if I'm being completely honest, I don't miss it all that much. Life goes on...

You guys also have MLB and NFL, which changes the equation quite a bit. Portland has only one major sport team. We have MLS, but I don't believe soccer is considered a major, yet.

Tbh, I still struggle with Hockey.

Chris Hansen is not a realistic option, let's be real. The league doesn't want to be associated with him after what he did (Sacramento).

He's out.

No other group has come forward.

If it's going to happen, it will be done by the Kraken group.

Where did I mention Chris Hansen? As I said on the previous page, Bezos would be interested in both the Seahawks and Blazers (I was joking about the package deal). No other group has come forward, YET, because they're still waiting for the league to say they aren't going to expand.

In the mean time, i'll just sit back and wait to see who buys the Blazers...

The "Aces" is the name of the WNBA team in Vegas. So I doubt it would called that. ;)

Standing on principles is what Oregon politicians have done for the past 60 years, ever since the failure to
pass the funding for Delta Dome in 1964.

As I said, it would amuse me if the PNW lost their NBA teams but at least Seattle has the NFL, MLB and NHL.
Portland would be left with the WNBA and MLS and the state would have the Oregon Ducks.

Oldest NBA arenas.

1. Madison Square Garden: (New York Knicks) - 1968
2. Target Center: (Minnesota Timberwolves) - 1990
3. Delta Center: (Utah Jazz) - 1991
4. Footprint Center: (Phoenix Suns) - 1992
5. United Center: (Chicago Bulls) - 1994
6. Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse: (Cleveland Cavaliers) - 1994
7. TD Garden: (Boston Celtics) - 1995
8. Moda Center: (Portland Trail Blazers) - 1995

But Portland needs a new one over those other teams??? We're actually tied with Boston at 7 since both opened the same season.

What's also interesting is how Portland's isn't much older than other arenas that would bump them up pretty quickly as a younger arena in the rankings.

9. Wells Fargo Center: (Philadelphia 76ers) - 1996
10. Capital One Arena: (Washington Wizards) - 1997
11. Scotiabank Arena: (Toronto Raptors) - 1999
12. State Farm Arena: (Atlanta Hawks) - 1999
13. Ball Arena: (Denver Nuggets) - 1999
14. Gainbridge Fieldhouse: (Indiana Pacers) - 1999
15. Crypto.com Arena: (Los Angeles Lakers) - 1999
16. Kaseya Center: (Miami Heat) - 1999

Tbf MSG just went through a massive renovation a few years ago. Which did not come cheap.

Utah, Phoenix & Minnesota had recent renovations on their arena's as well.

Yea, I live in AZ… have been to countless games at both Moda and Footprint Center and you would never guess that Moda is the newer arena. It’s not even close… Moda feels like an old college gym by contrast lol. And I look at the Moda Center with as much homerism and rose-city tinted glasses as it gets lol

Maybe its my lack of attending games at other arenas, but what's wrong with the Moda Center, other than the name?

Bring in a new jumbotron. What else needs to be updated? More electronics...okay. I'm okay with what it currently has.

I haven't been to the Suns arena since 2007. I moved out of Phoenix in 2008. My first experience in the "Rose Garden" (which it was called then) after moving back to the Northwest to me was a much better experience at the time. I never had a chance to see the Rose Garden as it opened less than a year before I moved to the valley of the sun to go to college until after 2008.

I admit going to Suns game back in the 00's decade was a lot of fun when the Suns had Steve Nash.

I love going to Moda. This sounds like a load of crap is what it sounds like.

Moda has the best food though. The other major arenas I've been to are MSG and TD Garden and the food is much much much better at Moda. They're still in the overpriced McD's, hotdogs, and pretzels era. And trust that the bathrooms there are NOT luxury either. At least the ones we plebs go to

a pretty cynical perspective. But maybe some major cynicism it justified; and in large part this seems to point at why Silver would say Portland needs a new arena. Not nearly enough ways to monetize the Moda

Yeah, nothing to really argue based on that video…I think it’s pretty obvious that as part of Silver’s push to monetize the NBA for owners, there’s been some strategic cutting of the “fat”—that fat being fans with less income privilege.

The reality is that it’s easier for normal folks with families to crowd around a TV than pile in and get the whole fam-damly down to an arena. Maybe they do it a coupla few times per season, but you can’t fill an arena that way.

There’s probably a middle ground, but despite “family night” events, there’s little doubt the NBA knows where it’s bread is buttered. Functionally, I doubt it even matters to anyone that the courtside goes empty. They already got the money.

How great would it be to have a system in place where courtside got filled by nosebleed fans after a certain point in the game?

Sadly, depending on who you ask, the Memorial Coliseum is going nowhere. When ther was talk about tearing it down and building a baseball stadium, some people got it approved as a historical site. It's too bad because it is not something people want to go see so why keep it. It's an old stadium that serves no purpose. A baseball stadium would be so much better, and I'm not even a baseball fan. The location is fantastic for some type of sport venue.
