HEAT/CELTICS -- Rozier full circle

Post#1 » by redslastlaugh » Mon Jul 21, 2025 10:05 pm

Celtics are going sideways looking for trades to ship out Anfernee Simons $27.7 million expiring deal. The league just announced clarity that Terry Rozier has NOT been cleared in a criminal gambling investigation.

Heat trade Terry Rozier ($26.6) + Jaime Jaquez ($3.8) for Anfernee Simons $27.7

Heat get off Rozier who doesn't factor into team plans going forward. They move Jaquez who had a tumultous sophomore slump second yr. They save $2.8 million in the deal. And Simons is an offensive guard in his prime, perhaps surrounded by some of Miami's defenders and Spoelstra's schemes, he can find success.

The Celtics move off Simons for Rozier's contract which is $1 million less and for a look at Jaquez whom the C's shooting/spacing may better permit some offensive efficiency. Celts may be able to move Rozier as an expiring for another player in the Kuzma category of lesser 2025-26 cap figure but additional years. The worst case scenrio for C's -- waive/stretch -- Rozier works a pinch better as a stretch candidate.

I know what Terry would say to this idea.

He'd say, bet on it.

Can't see MIA having any interest. They don't really have a need for a player with Simons' skill set. Rozier has been awful in MIA so yeah they owe value in the swap, but it's just not worth it for them to pay it. Not even a huge JJJ fan either, but this is kind of just throwing away an asset, even a minor one.

If I am Boston, it has to be Jovic not JJJ. Need guys who shoot the 3's.

Simons is super under rated, but I do understand that his approximate skill set (combo guard, impaired defense, can dominate FGA's on offense) has been over-produced. Poole, CJ, Rozier, Reaves, Dar, Herro, IQ (though he plays good defense), Cam Thomas, McCain I think there are like 10 more guys league wide who we could add to this.

Rozier is only tradeable in a straight trade-and-cut scenario and the Celtics aren't the team to take on additional salary to do it.

No thanks for Boston.
Also they need pre user moves to get under the first Apron as they take back more money here and would be hardcapped at the first Apron.
They are only going to trade Simons to shed Salary and get better in the future, not add Salarg and get worse.

the Heat organization seems to have irrationally high hopes for Jaquez, but this is a talent upgrade that I don't think they should turn down, even though Simons isn't really a need

HOWEVER... the chances of Rozier's contract straight up getting voided seem kind of high, and the Heat may simply want all the savings. I'm sure that's what the Celtics would be betting on (hehe)

Honestly, as a Celtics fan, I think we overrely on the 3ball and the stagnancy of 2-3 guys just standing at the line. What I like about Jaquez is he operates in the seems in the midrange and isn't reliant on shooting. Of course, his shooting can make him unplayable too, so it's kind of a thin needle to thread.

But I watched the C's win with an abundance of talent in 2024. I also saw them lose to an 8 seed in the conference Finals after taking 60 more 3PTAs than the Heat in 2023. And then I saw them lose in an alltime 2nd round upset against the Knicks when Celts outshot Knicks in attempts by 70. We don't need taking more 3pt attempts.

Plus Celts have a Garza and a Gonzalez on the roster, so we're doing the thing with the Spanish surnames, lol

Oh, interesting about the hardcapped. For the sake of that issue, I'd make it a 3-way trade with Tillman and Niang going to Chicago with a 2nd for Jevon Carter coming back to Boston, to keep Celtics cash positive on the deal...

But I'm not sold on this idea, this proposal has a lot of problems... Id just like a swing at Jaquez as a reclamation project

Miami passes, too, IMO. The chances of Rozier being voided seem pretty high right now.

Herro, Wiggins, Ware for Brown.

I mean, I think it's a worthy thought. Brown is likely a top 15 player. Wiggins is a surefire starter. Herro is a quasi-star, about the same level as Wiggins (I have him lower, but I know I am the odd duck there) and Ware is an interesting player who provides spacing, scoring, shot blocking, athleticism. Has the questionable motor I suppose. For the purposes today, we can file him as "next gen Miles Turner"

Do the Heat want a real franchise player to pair with Bam? Are Celtics willing to compromise their Jordan/Pippen combo for a deeper team?

Agree. Miami should probably keep him in the event a void occurs. They’d open up the MLE at that point I believe.
