Portland - Chicago
Portland trade: Henderson, Thybulle (or Williams)
Chicago trade: Giddey (S&T 4/110), POR 2026 LP 1st
Why for Portland: Push for playoff with a more seasoned playmaker.
Why for Chicago: Add a high upside prospect to rebuild in a strong draft year and get more capspace next summer
Why for Giddey: get paid

Re: Portland - Chicago
Interesting deal. I like Giddey a lot, but I think this is fair
Bulls core moving forward is Hendrson/Matas/Noa
Deal White and take a step back, getting ready for 2026 (tons of cap space, a top 6 pick)
Henderson/TJones/JCarter
Okoro/Ayo
Matas/Huerter/Terry
PWill/Noa/Phillips
Collins/JSmith
Not sure what to do with Vuc
Port plays big with
Giddey/Holiday
Sharpe/Holiday
Deni/Grant
Camara/Grant
Clingan/Yang
Deep bench of Reath, Thybulle or RWill (I assume Port would prefer to keep Thybullle), Murray-need another guard

Not a fan. I still feel Scoot has plenty of upside. Portland already has both Jrue Holiday and Damian Lillard in the "seasoned playmaker" role. No way Giddey starts over Holiday FWIW.

lillard probably isnt playing this year and who knows what form he will be in next year
holiday will continue trend down as he age
i would take giddey over them all day to be my lead guard

Re: Portland - Chicago
It's different I'll give you that. Quickly changes up the PORT outlook to get to the playoffs, which is counter productive for the Bulls giving up the pick. They wait a long time for that pick to materialize and they give it up by helping the Blazers make the playoffs. I might ask that the protection go to #20 instead on the off chance they really improve. You have to wonder what the Bulls think of Scoot's upside and when it starts to show.
I think I'd do it for the Bulls so I could see about Scoot reaching his upside on a younger team with a lot fewer seasoned veterans than PORT has had. White, Matas, Jones, Huerter, Dosunmu, Williams, Smith aren't all kids but they haven't bounced around to the number of teams that many of the PORT roster has. Henderson may feel more comfortable with players who like last year played together and aren't trying to show they're anchors or auditioning for trade partners.

Re: Portland - Chicago
Giddey seems so darned aenemic on defense. I have a lot more faith in Scoot becoming a leading PG than Giddey improving his D. Portland has clearly focused its roster on a defensive identity. No way they trade for Giddey to play him over Holiday. This is DOA.Godaddycurse wrote:Village Idiot wrote:Not a fan. I still feel Scoot has plenty of upside. wut?
Giddey was tied for 2nd on the Bulls in defensive rating with a mark 2.6 points better than his team. And he was 2nd on the Bulls in DBPM and defensive winshares. Giddey's DBPM was +1.1; Scoot's was -0.8. That's not an 'anemic' defensive resume, at least not for last season

Re: Portland - Chicago
That's a pretty reasonable contract for Giddey, and I think he's going to remain better than Scoot. (I know I always come out against Henderson, but I swear I still like the kid.) I do this.

I have little faith in Scoot. Giddey is interesting.

Genuine question: is this one of those times where stats are misleading or did he become a legit defender? That determines how on board I am.

I'm a yes for Portland.
I did have to think long and hard, but I think Giddey would suit our team.

Re: Portland - Chicago
What part of this is good for Chicago?
Giving up the best player AND prospect while giving Portland their pick back for Henderson who hasn't shown anything to still be considered high upside.
One thousand times no.

Giddey's 23 (I think or at least close). He's still on the timeline of the other Blazer youth.
Probably Holiday and Giddey start, with Sharpe as a 3rd guard.

Re: Portland - Chicago
love it for the bulls, yes please. would love henderson and thybulle for us.
henderson/white/thybulle/matas/collins would be a very solid lineup. jones/ayo/huerter/noa/smith is a solid bench.
if we focus on that lineup and young guys we can get some good development and hopefully a solid pick

None of those lineups with Henderson are solid, they're ass without any player capable of running the offense.
Henderson is a meh prospect.

I like Henderson as a prospect, and he improved quite a bit last year. Still has a ways to go, but building around
Henderson/TJones
? (keep White maybe)/Ayo
Matas/PWill
Noa/PWill
JSmith
Plus a top 8 pick in 2026-looks good to me

Re: Portland - Chicago
Creative idea, and I applaud the OP for outside the box thinking.
My biggest issue with this concept is Giddey's perimeter shooting. Specifically, that the Blazers don't have the right team of complimentary shooters to maximize his strengths.
Scoot may turn out to be a bust, but he still has the potential to be a better all around player, with better shooting, defense, maybe worse play making.
We'll see

I believe he is out of bust range unless your definition is simply disappointing based on initial expectations. He looks to be a long term NBA player, the question is how much better he will be.

Agreed. My crystal ball is in the shop, but I'm still very optimistic that Scoot is going to get much better. Reports of his work ethic this summer are very encouraging.
Again - we'll see.
