Malik Beasley is free. Contending teams should be doing everything in their power to sign him

Post#1 » by ball_takes23 » Fri Aug 22, 2025 12:53 pm

It sucks that he got caught up in the investigation when he had nothing to do with it. Gambling ruining so many lives. He had one of the best 3 point shooting seasons ever last year, he could be an extremely valuable pickup

He is not really free. His reputation has been ruined.

He should go back to Detroit and continue to build on their success from last season, IMO.

Also, doesn't Detroit have rights?

I think teams should be waiting if the NBA is gonna drop a suspension on him for even being in this situation.

His reputation was already ruined but this didn't help any. He'll probably have to sign a really cheap 1 year deal or w/e. He'd be a good pick up for a contending team on cheap money for a year.

But... he also has that whole ugly domestic violence thing from 2020 that would probably prevent certain teams from ever signing him.

Seemed like there was a lot of evidence on him with his over/under tweets and "style of play"

It's most likely its somewhere inbetween. He may have given a "friend" or family member some information that led them to tell someone else who took that information and ran with it trying to make a quick buck. I think the big factor is/was whether or not he knowingly or intentionally gave someone that information so they could make bets.

The game in question with the large # of irregular high money bets was back when he was with the Bucks and the bet was on the under for rebounds and he got the over so a few people lost big money betting against him.

Perhaps he simply told someone he wasn't feeling good or was dealing with a minor injury or something and then someone around him took that info and passed it along to some major bettors.

They have "non bird rights" which would allow them to sign him for 120% of his previous salary(which was $6mil) so they can sign him for $7.2 million. They have one open roster spot.

If the fed was not able to find anything, he likely didn’t do it. If an insider on the team sees he is injured and tells all of his friends what exactly is Beasley supposed to do?

Sucks for Beasley. Sounds like he lost lots of money based on something he didn't do.

A return to the Pistons would probably be best for both sides.

Is it? Pistons signed his replacement, the reserve for that replacement AND getting back Ivey. I would tell Pistons to kick rocks and I don’t believe Detroit will go into the tax even further to sign him to the max allowed.

His best option is to go to a team that can promise him a real opportunity to key reserve minutes so he can play his mind out and hope to get a longterm contract next offseason.

Huh? Even if the Pistons signed him to the maximum that they can offer ($7.2MM) they would still be almost $14.MM under the tax.

He should be able to sue to the government for slandering him (and costing him a lot of bread). The Southern District is not known for being this reckless.

Detroit has kept that last roster spot open for this exact reason. Also, Duncan is not the replacement. He will find minutes in the rotation even if Beas comes back, but will definitely see reduced use. Duncan only has 1 guaranteed year, so having both of them for a season wouldn't be bad. We've kept our team in position to accept him back, but he won't be making the money we initially offered.

This is also a chance for Duncan to outplay beas and show us he's the better option if he has it in him.

Yea, is he able to? It’s a clear cost he can cite, he was offered a contract, and it was withdrawn, so damages if he can sue are pretty crystal clear.
