He gets the retirement because of his popularity being from Chicago, which we all know.

In terms of ability, I think that's completely correct.

In term's of how the MVP award is handed out, his team had the best record in the league, and he was head and shoulders above anyone else on it. That is how probably half the MVPs are handed out. If you fit in this scenario, someone needs a great narrative to defeat you, the award is yours to lose.

Beyond being the best player on best team front runner, he also had the best narrative in the league. He never won the award previously, he was 3-0 in the regular season against Goliath (LeBron), and the whole league loved that the Bulls were kind of the anti-Heat in being homegrown.

This was about as much of a no brainer as you'll ever see in MVP awards based on how they typically go, which is why he got 113 of 121 1st place votes.

A lot of these negative posts are comical, just goes to show that Bulls fans didnt deserve him while he was here. Before Rose arrived we were stuck in BABY BULL PURGATORY, after his arrival we skyrocketed into a team to watch to TITLE CONTENDERS.

Congrats to a fellow kid from the inner city of Chicago who defied the odds and succeeded on all levels of play.

Agreed about the Westbrook comp...who was also a 1x MVP and also a 100% lock to get his jersey retired.
Seattle/OKC has retired Nick Collison's jersey. He was about the equivalent to Taj Gibson for them.

I think it's kinda interesting to gauge the difference in Rose vs Westbrooks jersey retirements from both fanbases. Thunder fans are 100% on Westbrook getting his jersey retired even if they weren't big fans of him, Chicago fans seem 50/50 on Rose.

I would guess if you could poll the larger fanbase, it's probably closer to a 90+/10 split. Dude got MVP chants any time he came back to the United Center.

I would say i am in the minority in my thinking that he didn't deserve it based on play. But its a jersey retirement which is lower on the things to really care about. Probably even have some fans that would go Jordan 1A Rose 1B. Its kind of the equivalent of Kobe fans saying hes the GOAT.

Nice "what if" the Bulls took Westbrook over Rose how different if any the Bulls teams would of been.

I don't think that's true. I think if you go into the true die-hard analytical fans that you'd likely find similar numbers of outliers either way. The typical Bulls fan you meet is over the moon for Rose.
