Any time he got playing time, he looked good, I am not sure why exactly Spurs had such as small role for him, is he really worse than Sochan?

He's the "reverse" Sochan.

Sochan can't shoot but on paper he can guard 1-4,Mamu can most definitely shoot but he was really bad defensively (slow on the perimeter, targeted in the paint)

(Not that Sochan has really developed after his rookie year or anything)

OT but curious an extension hasn't been reached yet. There's still time but... Interesting.

Still managed to take it home. Luka is him.

Yep. Most of the country we didn't expect Slovenia even getting out of the stage group but now we're in quarters, wild. But Luka having to score or assist on over 52% of team points for entire tournament is also crazy.

Than Italy said: holdy my pizza.

Like, Fontecchio has clear left angle to attack for layup, instead he is flopping like fish on minimum contact and throws ball behind his back. Even that dribble pull up 2 was complete lunacy, given they needed easy 2 or gamble on 3. His shot did neither, just went in.

That overdribbling to end up with Melli shooting fadeaway with 0,5 on the clock was pure moronism. Their PG wasted 22 sec just to call for pick, to have no time to actually use missmatch.

I said when Sochan got injured, that it is really a shame, because I really wanted to see him in Eurobasket, since I cant really grasp how good he is if hes good at all. Personally I am Sochan skeptic, but I have been wrong many times.

Honestly,i think his head in not in the game, the BBIQ is lacking,he really should be a much better player after year 3.
If he continues on the same path i have doubts about his future in a Playoffs Version of the Wemby Spurs...

Yes I want to penalize. No matter the size of the country and its population, have enough self respect not to fall for the random american mercenary stuff. I have big respect for all the countries who go to war with their own, without adding any random mercs, win or lose. Slovenia with Randolph and Spain with Lorenzo Brown, there is no respect from me, these titles carry a big asterisk.

Americans themselves added a mercenary Cameroonian because of their lack depth at C, does the Paris gold have asterisk also?

Embid was at least in the USA for a long time. So that's quite a bit different example. But yes, there's an asterisk. For the country with the most talent and depth to be adding naturalized players, that qualiied for two other teams, one of them also being one of the best teams in the world (France), is ridiculous.

Everyone knows they did it just to make France a potentially weaker opponent at the Olympics. That's a very clear abuse of the rules.

The examples of Slovenia with Randolph and L. Brown with Spain were just absolutely egregious abuses of the rule.

Randolph had never even been to Slovenia and was playing for their national team.

So that's a huge asterisk gold. And most people I have talked with about this agree.

They don't have any good all around offensive players. Fontecchio is the only decent scorer and his all around offensive game is lacking.

They have quite overachieved in recent years.

Italy's previous generation had a bunch of big name players and never did jack, because they wouldn't play defense and fight hard and just chucked all game.

Now they play within a system, and make the effort on defense and physically, but they have no individual talents.

It's been a long and thorough collapse for Italian basketball over the last 20 years.

Weird English commentators today. By the end it seemed like they were actively rooting for Italy. I get rooting for the underdog and an exciting finish, but even at the end of the first half they seemed dejected that Luka had 30. It was like watching a Dubs broadcast when the Warriors are losing.

Anyone have any issues today with the Court side app? Are the games blacked out?

I think Luka might be the best FIBA player of the 2000s. Ginobili has a strong argument over him with that Olympic gold, but he also had a significantly better supporting cast.

Nowitzki had to carry a similar load. However, he obviously didn't have Luka's playmaking ability.

If we are talking about the supporting casts of the teams as a comparion:

That Argentina team was crazy stacked. Manu was playing on a super team for FIBA standards.

Dirk did carry a big load, but those 2000s German teams certainly had better support players than Slovenia has now.

You're right. Slovenia was like, "here please take it".. And Italy said "No, i don't think i will". Weird finish lol...

Svetislav Pesic and Serbia return home after early EuroBasket exit: “Why would I resign?”

“I never resign. Why would I resign? I came here to do what I’ve done, and when nobody else wanted to, I accepted it. After the Olympic Games, again nobody wanted to step in, and I took it because I felt a responsibility toward the players. Our agreement runs until the end of September. We’ll sit down, we’ll talk. I’m always here, ready to help in any way. Resignations… This isn’t football. In basketball, you don’t resign.”

While Dirk's teammates weren't good overall. I do agree that Okulaja would probably be Slovenia's 2nd best player now too. He averaged 10 ppg for Khimki Moscow which isn't easy to do.

Just look at Dirk's teamates in 2000s, it's clearly stronger than what Slovenia has right now and by quite a bit.

Turns out trolling about free throws seems to come in a popularity basis cause no one is concern trolling about luka 14 fts per game on a 40 minute game tournament
