Seems like that would pretty obviously be the Wii U and Virtual Boy. The Switch is now the the third best selling console of all times and has a lot of good exclusives. Maybe you guys just don't like Nintendo games anymore.

I don't play many video games anymore, but it seems like they have kept their focus on kids and families while the other consoles more explicitly target adult gamers. The Nintendo IP stuff still seems great. Every 8-12 year old I know has one and plays the living **** out of it.

From my perspective, they **** up not packing it with Switch Sports and expanding meaningfully on that concept, which was an incredibly effective hook for the Wii. But making it a hybrid/portable console seems like it's worked out pretty well.

I'm not even much of a first party Nintendo person, but I think the first Switch is a pretty incredibly design and it was probably my most used console during its run. Perfect for travel, and hanging out on the porch or couch jamming games like Slay the Spire as I wind down. Generally, if you give me a good version of a game on the Switch (now Switch 2), that's going to be where I want it.

I think the biggest discrepancy for Switch owners is those who travel and use it as handheld and those who don't. Secondarily is how much you actually use it for other games besides first party games. My Switch has essentially been a coaster for 5 years. I loved Odyssey, despised Breath of the Wild (and had no interest in 2), and basically played no other first party games aside from Smash for a week or two. The Switch's hardware is so bad that anything that was on other systems I just purchased there. I'm pretty much a home body, so the traveling function was basically non-existent for me. The Switch's audience wasn't me, and that's fine, but it definitely meant I was never gonna give Nintendo $600 so I could play new Donkey Kong and have another very expensive dust collector - even though bitches **** love Donkey Kong.

So yeah, you pretty much nailed it on the head for me here. I don't travel as much as I used to, so that pretty much negates a large part of the appeal. I still love Mario and Zelda, but this has been a pretty universal gripe about Nintendo going all the way back to the Wii. That being I think it's tough to keep being an "IP exclusive" niche console with inferior hardware compared to your main competitors.

And I'm sorry, but the controller design is **** awful. I barely played it and yet I still had to buy replacements because the joy-cons just wore out so easily. Throw in that you had to buy all the extra charge ports, N64 controller for ported games (playing any ported SNES or N64 game was borderline impossible with the joy-cons), and I think it goes a bit beyond "just wasn't for me". The Wii was legitimately a ground-breaking console whereas I think the Switch was just a lateral step if not a step backwards. I think they're largely just relying on brand recognition at this point.

Borderlands is one of the few games where most of the time I don't mind playing with randos. It's always fun to get three people playing together who know exactly what needs to be done, no speaking necessary.

Haven't been able to play much with work but watching some tips videos now and BL4's mechanics are way deeper than any previous game and the endgame seems ridiculous.

Ridiculous in a good way? I'm thinking about picking it up

Upgraded today from my 13 to the 17 Pro Max. 4 years, it was time for an upgrade. Easy to transfer everything over. I like it fine so far. Compared to the 13 it's a lot faster, much better video quality. It's not groundbreaking of course but it's a better phone than I had. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

I'm not there yet (or even really close) but endgame seems super deep.

Yeah I actually think BL4 is awesome (if you can run it). I've put in 30 hours so far and I've been gone since Tuesday.

Yea, I'm enjoying it a lot. Played through the campaign and finished at level 30. I saved every side mission, vault, abandoned auger, bunker, drill site, and crawler for UVHM. A few side missions in and I've already played some very hard, very substantial missions. Having a great time.

I tried transitioning into a cool kill skill Vex build I read about, where crits have a chance to count as a kill skill, and I think I did it prematurely/not enough skill points. I'm only level 22 - playing slow, taking my time exploring, and doing side missions I probably shouldn't bother with :D - and I'm dying all the time now without Trouble. So probably switching back for now.

Did you settle on a build?

I just kept my Reaper build going, pretty haphazardly with doing no research. It's fine. They're mostly fine to keep enemies agro'd on them and not me. I finally came upon the respec machine so I'm sure at some point this week I'll actually dive in. There's a skill at the bottom of a tree I didn't follow that would allow my Reapers to have the same gun as I do for a short time and that has the potential to be nuts.

I've learned my lesson about buying horror games (don't), but I look forward to watching long plays of Silent Hill f or more likely reading the wikipedia summary.

I have a backlog of like 5 or 6 different horror games that I’ve not finished, or bought but haven’t even started yet, because I’m a colossal pussy lol.

Most prominent ones being the Dead Space remake and Resident Evil 2 and 4 remakes. It’s about time I grew a pair and finished them.

For me personally it's the puzzles that inevitably show up. I don't care how simple they are, I hate all puzzles in video games. Like I lasted about an hour with the Indiana Jones game. I look up literally every door puzzle in the Elder Scrolls. I get frustrated in Metroidvanias when the solution isn't anything as simple as "you need a double jump".

I like my games mindless. :)

It's been a long time but I remember RE4 feeling much more action-oriented than others in the series and not all that scary. I'm sure it's got some jump scares, but I don't remember it being too bad. It's a great game, though.
