What is the rationale for this?

Seems really bad for Boston

Atlanta is getting worse, not going for it as you state

This has Atlanta adding over 10 million in additional salary for worst fits.

The rationale is the pick compensation
The two teams involved have a good stock of good pics
The Pelicans pick of Atlanta would be the goal giving boston 2 high lottery pics

Speculation not fact as facts aren't possible
You could be correct but maybe not maybe

You haven’t spelled out the pick compensation.
It needs to be more than just a couple picks.

Pelicans pick is the prize
Should be high lottery paired with bostons high lottery pick giving boston more lottery balls improving bostons chances of the number 1 pick. Whether boston drafts both pics or trades 1 or both we will see. Obviously other picks are nice and I feel boston would accept but this being a development year the high lottery pics and the value they bring are the goal here.

Agreed.
Which would also push them into the tax and Tony won't do that.

Yeah I’d personally pass. I value Brown and Queta more than the unknown pick.
This trade would close the window. Doesn’t seem like a good idea.

So atlanta is trading Trae, Risacher + premium pelicans pick for brown/Simons combo? Wouldn’t consider it for Atlanta even without that pick. Terrible value

Yeah I don’t disagree from ATL perspective either.

Brown and Simons are not better than what Atlanta is giving up considering their fits on the team. Atlanta would then be without a starting quality PG and have no legit backup option to play there full time. Simons and Dyson would be competing for both a starting spot and a new contract, and Atlanta would go with Dyson.
