Which Of These Shooting Guards Was Manu Ginobili Better Than, All-Time?

Post#1 » by MiamiBulls » Wed Oct 22, 2025 1:49 am

Manu Ginobili is either compared to absolute Tier 1 Guards of Bryant & Wade or is treated like a supercharged Jamal Crawford.

Looking to gauge where he stands, which of these Guards do you think he's better than, in Career/Peak-wise?

I'll probably get grilled for this, but I don't think he was really "better" than any of these guys. I'd take him over VC in a heartbeat though.

Manu was a guy who would do anything to win. He did all the little things and was willing to take a backseat for the good of the team. That's always going to be valuable. He wasn't on the Kobe/Wade level, but he was much better than a "supercharged Crawford."

It's hard to compare him to those you listed because he's a team player that was never the first option on his squads. He was highly successful and pioneered a lot of moves we see today, but that doesn't show outside of his ring count and influence towards basketball sickos, and that's what he'll always have on those guys you listed.

But because those dudes were all first options with teams built around them at one point in time, they'll have a statistic advantage with more individual accolades than Manu could ever get. Since the all time debate has many moving factors that are usually opinion based, it's weighing individual success vs championships.

Voted none of the above, but I wonder what Manu would have looked like if he spent a year of his prime on the Bobcats or some other team in the mid 2000's no-mans-land just getting numbers? Would he translate into a high volume first option?

Anyone comparing Manu to Kobe or Wade can't be taken seriously. For starters, what All NBA selections did he have? What teams did he lead to titles? How many MVPs did he win?

Super charged Jamal Crawford is a perfect description here. He was a sixth man. He was never the guy. At any point.

I'm taking Manu over all those guys.

None of those guys won or could win a gold medal with Argentina.

All of the guards listed above were below average defenders, something Manu was better at. Offensively, obviously they were better but Manu was the more complete player. And also, a winner, unlike the 4 above.

All but Ray Allen. Ray was better than Manu.

I would take Ginobli over all of them but Ray Allen. McGrady, Carter, and Iverson were more explosive offensively but Ginobli played both sides of the court. He would also be a seamless fit on any team.

2 all nbas. He was an all nba level super impactful guard that accepted a bench role for the betterment of the team.

In doing so maybe the biggest aspect of his sacrifice was knowing in the future there would be absolutely fools that call him just a "sixth man ". :) fools that don't know their history.

Of the 12 people who voted AI, I wonder how many even watched him play. He warped defenses in a way Manu never could. And if you didn't scheme your defense around stopping him then he'd single handedly beat you. Manu didn't have to face that kind of attention.

Probably none.

Maybe Allen.

You are comparing a second / thirs option to a Alphas.

Make Ginobli carry a team for years, he looks alit worse.

I seriously doubt if all these alphas could carry Argentina the way Manu did.

Absolute peak talent, all except T-Mac. TMac was supremely talented, and one of the few guys in nba history who legitimately had the talent (but not the health or work ethic/drive) to become a top 10 player ever.

I watched AI play. I also watched the 2004 Olympics, where Ginobili beat Team USA as the #1 option and put up 29 points on 69/67/88 shooting splits.

Prime Iverson was more entertaining, both on and off the court, but he missed way more shots than he ever made and he lost way more playoff games than he ever won.
