Probably one of those guys who is absolute **** with money. Making $20m in straight salary you're paying over 40% of that in taxes in terms of federal (around 38-39%) and then in all the cities you play in during the year that you get taxed on for the game-check from that city. Then you toss in the agent cut and he's probably clearing under $10m in yearly money.

Then you live in Miami and having a multi-million home, expensive cars, and likely spending money crazily. He'll be declaring bankruptcy in the near future.

Florida has no income tax which is what makes it nuts. Dude maybe just an addict who got pulled into a gambling ring and couldn't get out.

Well probably about $40M was lost in taxes. A few million more in agent fees and other professional services like lawyer and money manager. Probably a few million gifted to family or friends in various forms. So maybe less than $90M.

Don't get me wrong, I can't imagine spending tens of millions dollars but I do know that people tend to spend toward the limit of their means and that often includes very rich people, especially when they are young and don't already possess financial responsibility when they acquire their wealth. Also doesn't help if they're immersed in a culture of opulence and become accustomed to only receiving the very best of everything.

Rozier wouldn't necessarily needed to have lost all of his basketball wealth to be incentivized by whatever his cut of the cheated winnings would be. Say he had already pissed away 3/4 of his disposable fortune and only had about $22M left, a lot of it tied up in illiquid assets like real estate or very long-term financial investments. A cut of $1M might be a big inducement for a person in such a circumstance even though it's a tiny speck of their career earnings.

To be fair to the FBI, it's probably very hard to figure out whether a guy who complete sucks at basketball threw games deliberately.

Maybe he spent more than 135M

I was not following investigationg, but wasn't this all started, because info of his injury was leaked? Correct me if I am wrong, but no illegal bets were even made, and he was not making bets, it was just clear that people outside Heat organization were tipped off that Rozier got injured and placed bets on his unders.

From my understanding, the whole investigation was just about who leaked inside information, because we knew someone did. It could have been Rozier or any of the doctors or anyone else who is in that locker room. Even if Rozier did it, legally he will be in trouble, but he really did nothing evil or anything, he just said people that he is injured before it was public. Dude just getting screwed because these betting agencies enforced huge legal protections anytime they get screwed in any way. This is actually pretty sad.

Chauncey Billups also arrested for betting. The NBA really is going to ruin things getting in bed with gambling, short term money for long term loss of authenticity…

Wasnt that Dion Waiters?

Yep. Dude is literally attributing everything bad in Heat history to Rozier now. "Prob as cooked as he was when he scored 8 points in the finals or when he drafted Justise Winslow".
So many people who attain the heights of power in this culture—celebrities, for instance—have to make a show of false humility and modesty, as if they got as far as they did by accident and not by ego or ambition.

Just to clarify, this Rozier stuff happened when he was with the Hornets. Before his value completely tanked.

NBA looked into it and saw no wrongdoing so I have no idea how this thing has been handled honestly. Rozier can afford good lawyers I’m sure.

Letting the gambling business Adelsons buy the Mavericks and everything that has transpired since then as well. The NBA got in bed with the wrong people.

The FBI never cleared him.
I doubt it was only while he was with the Hornets. There have been some suspect things that have occurred since he's been with Miami.

Goes to show you how good NBA is at investigating themselves. Silver needs to resign today

Very true.
Now, the Mavs will move down the road, and be on a casino resort.

Things have changed since the The Maloof family owned the Kings and Palms casino/hotel. You couldn't even wager on the Kings at the Palms.

If this is about underground poker rings then this is crap and they should have never been arrested.

Also, are there any halfway competent people left in the FBI?

IMO there are very few people with the money to buy a team who are not morally corrupt.

Then the NBA is run by the biggest idiots in the world because it makes them completely clueless when handing an investigation or they are complicit in it and tried to sweep it under the rug. They worked with the FBI for the Porter case so I’m honestly not sure who to believe here. FBI did have a leadership shift between the starting point of the Rozier case to now I do believe.
