Joel may or may not be cooked, fortunately for Philly they seem to have a legit budding star in VJ "The Generator" Edgecombe either way.

Re: Embiid’s Health (is it over?)
He looked super cooked - didn't jump in majority of plays where he should've and in those that he did he barely got any lift and looked like he is about to break down. His team had to ice him out of offense as he was being a hindrance and he was sitting on the bench in the crunch time.
It's a shame really, NBA would be better off with talented guy like him being healthy, but i don't think he will ever be.

I mean, he's cooked, but he's not giving up money. If they want to give him the $170M to just walk away though, he should take it.

Re: Embiid’s Health (is it over?)
I hate it for the guy because an able Embiid is great for the league. But he was useless on wednesday, just hanging out at the arc and slowing down a very fast team.
If Edgecombe is the real deal as he showed on Wednesday, then his rookie scale/high value contract somewhat offsets the pain of Embiid making close to $70 annually through 28/29. So that works out.

I know Embiid has a lot of fans here, but I personally won't miss his whiny, flailing, cheap-shotting ass.
Lol, what? Embiid has been injured yearly since college, there's no karma here, this was inevitable

A healthy Joel is good for the NBA. Always brought good drama & entertainment.
i agree. i should "hate" him for what he has done to the knicks players in that one series. but i actually like him as a player, when at full strenght. It would be sad to see him go out like that.. not gonna lie.
When hes not angry and frustrated all the time, i think hes actually a likable guy. he had some rough years lately, and it showed in his play and mood. I cant fault him for that, hes a human just like us.
When i was on my last legs, after some injuries i wasnt happy either

Re: Embiid’s Health (is it over?)
I’ve said it before but they need to go the Lonzo route with him. Get him the cartilage transplant surgery and hope he can come back in ‘27/28.
Right now they have 2 options (based on what I’m assuming is bone on bone knee problems):
A) let him try to play through it and he’ll give you 45 games a year and his condition will get worse until he can’t play at all
B) cartilage replacement surgery and sit him out 18 months and hope he can come back to all-star level in ‘27/28.
I’d take my chances with option B because at the rate he’s going now he might be retired in 2 years. There is no rehabbing his or resting through his current issues. It just gets worse.

Re: Embiid’s Health (is it over?)
I was shocked as to how bad he looked considering the last time he played was 8 months ago and he pretty much took all of last season off. As for retirement: only way I see that happening is if Philly pays 100% of his salary.

PHI owing their FRP only Top-4 protected to OKC is killer. If they owned that pick I would say they go the cartilage transplant route and hope he can come back sometime in 26/27.
I dont think you can afford to do that with that pick obligation though. Too much pain if the pick goes like 5-8 and ends up in OKC. They probably should just ride him until the wheels come off sometime this season then hope for medical retirement.

I think they would just prefer the medical retirement route and get him off the books.

The pick is a sunk cost. What’s the upside to having Embiid play this year given how he looks? If Embiid can only give them 40 games (and continue to decline physically) there’s no point going down that path. If they’re going to go the transplant route they have to do it now.
If this is who Embiid is now they are screwed this season. Shut Embiid down and hope for some lotto luck. That’s a better outcome than winning 40 games, Embiid decline even more and delaying surgery another year.

Crazy that a quiet pick in VJ might be the point of whatever the hell the process was supposed to accomplish

If tanking is the goal they should have Biid out there as much as he's capable of.

Re: Embiid’s Health (is it over?)
He just started playing again so I'm not going to rush to judgement over 1 game
It's pretty unlikely he ever resumes his former level of play, but I expect he will still be a contributor once he figures out how to operate in a lower usage role

Re: Embiid’s Health (is it over?)
Just an update that, yeah, Embiid's not going to play like a clueless fool who can't shoot for the rest of his career. Scored an easy 20 pts in 20 minutes (looks like that his minute restriction rn) on 11 shots last night. 7/11, 3/5 from 3. He still looks not quite like himself, especially on drives, but he's obviously not wet trash yet either. He'll probably spend a while in this phase of 'still very effective at some stuff but not at others, so how good is he overall?'

Also genuinely curious and not trolling--why do people on here fight to be the first person to scream that someone's washed, but then don't seem to mind when they're wrong?

Nah, Joe L moved ok in the preseason and it's the first couple of games after a long layoff. he's at the first stages of ramping it up. while his best days are behind him, he'll be much better than what he showed thus far and still a high impact player. In between mins restrictions and heavy load managment
