Euroleague 2026

Post#1 » by UcanUwill » Tue Sep 30, 2025 6:50 pm

Season just started. Two debuting teams, Hapoel and Dubai debuted with wins. I was afraid Micic would be terrible signing, but frankly, he looked very good, he might still be Euroleague star. Hapoel beat Barcelona.

Dubai beat Partizan, who always look like they have strong roster, but never get going. Carlik Jones is just not Euroleague star a lot anticipate him to be, not yet at least, he is very rounded, but just not a good scorer at Euroleague level. Dubai on the other ahnd has some interesting players, I do not expect Davis Bertans to be strong Euroleague player in 2026, but today he was their leader, 20 points. Petrusev and Musa both looked very good, it was a derby for Petrusev, he is probably Dubais best player I would say, it is him and Musa.

Off topic, but It is crazy to think how awful Slovenian National team is outside Doncic, cause their second best player, Prepelic, making his Euroleague return with Dubai, and man -7 PIR today in 8 minutes, this is Doncic's right hand man in FIBA ball, its freaking crazy.

I will be making more comments after more games, maybe few people even read it, this International board is super ''active'' I see...

Speaking about everyones favorite topic, politics, but hopefully not turning this into ugly debate, do you think Israeli teams should be banned from Europen tournamets, just like Russian teams are? I ask this cause more and more people think that.

Yes they should but they won't.
Euroleague isn't a serious organisation either way but especially on this case they'll do whatever everyone else does. Uefa, Fifa etc etc

Žalgiris opens the season beating both finalists of last year, they survived Wade Baldwin IV who was amazing, 36 points for Baldwin in losing effort.

Hapoel also debut with 2 wins, beating Efes this time, granted with some favor from what I would call ref meltdown in the forth quarter. Bad foul call on Loyd, lots of Efes members disagree, refs handle tech left and right, eject Kokoskov, his assistent, Hapoel gains big lead by just shooting free throws, prevails at the end.

Monaco gets their first win, Mirotic with great game, he will probably end up with round 2 MVP, 32 PIR.

Worth to note that Bayern beat Zvezda, behind 9 three pointers from Obst...

IDK if I'd say Euroleague isn't a serious organization. At least not in the last 3-4 yrs. Expansion and more broad support are great signs for the league. One move I question was moving the finals to the middle east and changing to a 1 and done finals.
Some good match-ups this week for sure.

I think Zalgiris stays undefeated.
Maccabi get an underdog win.
Fenerbache bounces back and blows Dubai out.

Hapoel doing great so far, been number one seed for quite a while, still just 1 loss, yet to play round 8 game tho.

Žalgiris just beat Asvel by 37 points. 37 points is their biggest EL win ever, but they did it 3 times now. Their PG from academy got minutes and a had a PIR of 13, Asvel was just freaking brutal.
But this game features one ridiculously stupid mistake by the referees, smth you wont see by such professionals often. Žalgiris had possession, crossed the halt court line and everything, but ball was deflected by Asvel player, bounced behind half court line, Žalgiris and Asvel players both reached for the ball at same time and jump ball was called. Žalgiris won Jump ball at the center court, but then refs call 8 seconds violation on Žalgiris, because they had Ball at Asvel side at 16 second mark. But the ball already crossed the half court before, and refs just forgot that...

It is just first quarter, But Real with big lead over Fener, 20-6 so far. Real is up and down this season, but I think Fenerbahce is just straight bad. THey are both with 3-4 record, behind playin so far, but Fenerbahce just does not look good at all. I like their teal away uniforms tho, but everyone on their team wears very short shorts for some reason :)

Moneke finally proving he can be star on a winning team. Meanwhile, Baskonia is just a sad team.

Olympiacos - Monaco was a great game wednesday. Another big game for them tonight against Pana.
I'm a bit disappointed so far, I thought they would be better now that they finally have Mirotic.

Both Mirotic and James are older now, but their starting linep looks pretty insane judging by sheer name recognition.

ASVEL is awful. 21 points at a half on 37 shot attempts, 12 TOs also

Probably their last EL season. They will jump onf FIBA champions league hoping that would make them viable NBA Europe team. But team is too cheap, market is way too small and brand is not famous.

In other news, Efes just beat Barca by one point, spoiled Pasquals return, Barca had a one point lead, but refs called a foul on Vesely with 0.3 second remainding, and Cordinier hit both FTs and won the game. Always a bit sad when games decided this way, but it was probably a foul.

Tony Parker is banking on NBA Europa... Otherwise they're lost

Semi ot (sorry, I don't have permission to post in the appropriate thread in the general forum).

"Coach Ergin Ataman slams Paris basketball media coverage and NBA Europe target cities".

NBA Europe director Giorgos Aivazoglou announced recently a list of potential target cities for NBA Europe, and Panathinaikos coach Ergin Ataman addressed the elephant in the room.
"In some of those cities, the mainstream interest in basketball is nonexistent".

Ataman addressed the issue, starting from the recent viral moment of Valencia‘s coach, Pedro Martinez, in Paris.
No reporters were present in the press room after Paris’s win over Valencia for the EuroLeague. Martinez was visibly surprised when asked to do a press conference without the press; he just repeated the result and left.
Read on Twitter

" Last week, I held a press conference in Paris with zero journalists. And after me, you know, Pedro Martinez from Valencia, he also had zero".

And while the mood was light, the point of Ataman was dead serious: “So I am very curious. NBA Europe announced some cities, like Paris, London, and Manchester. If there’s no interest in basketball in these cities, how can you make a strong league? So first you must get interest, and this will come from the journalists. A EuroLeague team having no journalists in two games, this is something I saw for the first time in my life. So NBA Europe should also consider this, this is a very dangerous situation for European basketball”.
