Even if we only count the NBA since, say, the 70s, I gaurantee you many players have averaged 6 bpg over a 3 game stretch. Probably happened at least 50 times. I bet you someone has 10 bpg over 3 games. Still he's doing great, but no need for this thread after 3 games. Would be more suitable after 25 games if he's still above 6 bpg.

Yes, but... Wemby is actually pretty good at blocking 3s. I've seen him be standing on the FT line and block a 3PA. Which is insanity. He'll get to more of those than anyone else in league history.
Yes! I forgot to mention this earlier.. Wemby blocks jumpshot attempts on a fairly routine basis. I would love to see historical stats on Wemby's jumpshot-blocked per game average (JSBPG), and total count of those over a season - as since he's come into the league he's been doing that pretty often.

Yeah, I mean, he's bonkers. What he does specifically will be what it'll be, but we're watching him be a monster with his length and mobility in a league where deep jumpers are emphasized, and that's pretty crazy.

I'm as guilty as any, but fighting this fight is folly. People are going to make overreaction threads all over the first chunk of the season, as they do every year. xD

Indeed. It is fascinating to watch and ponder.
Victor Wembanyama Blocking 3PT SHOTS | Spurs 24-25 Season
Wemby should be able to reliably cover his own man in spaced situations, and then anyone else near him on the perimeter. A decent difference between Wemby, and bigs like Gorbert, and even Ben Wallace (who had good quickness for a big), is the combination of speed and overall size. I think this is going to be different and sustainable (as long as he's fairly healthy ; ) ), since it'll be more situational than anything.

No, you just ended up a poster on thousands of walls around the country, and a highlight on repeat on television.
That's literally where the phrase "posterized" comes from...
Lol, posterized is the other way around. Getting dunked on. I've literally never seen a poster of Mark Eaton. I didn't even know how the leader for blocks in a season was. It's ok to be wrong.

What can one conclude other than players are afraid of Wemby blocking their shot? Like this is crazy lol. While I get there's a larger trend of the game style changing and blocks decreasing, we have to point out that what's happening above is something that is unique to one player. This isn't happening with Mobley or Holmgren. It's not happening with Giannis or Embiid. It's not happening with Gobert or Green. It's only Wemby. This is why merely using large scale trends to explain a player specific phenomenon comes up short.

Not only is this unique to Wemby, but can somebody find a clip of this happening with Wemby previously? Like what's change between Wemby this year and Wemby the last two years? People in this thread are really comparing watching highlights on tv in the 1980s and putting posters up on your wall to tiktok, twitter and instagram lol.
Like even before this season and the latest massive Wemby push, Wemby had over 1 billion social media views. It'll be interesting to see how many views he amasses this season. Probably the far and away #1 player. Comparing Wemby's massive social media reach to Mark Eaton blocking a shot is like fundamentally rejecting/not understanding how people under 35 live their life.

No, I know, my point was that such things existed. Getting blocked, meh, much less so. Getting dunked on, for sure. But it didn't stop guys from attempting to block shots (other than Shaq). There was a media form of shaming in existence at the time. It wasn't as widespread or as prevalent as it is today, but it was a thing.

Wemby has dropped far behind Eaton now. Slacker.

Nope, watching the Spurs play and guys get past their defender and immediately pass when he rotates.
