I know Kidd soured on a lot of people here, but to be fair, we absolutely sucked before he got here. This board was a factory of sadness. We did nothing for years before Kidd brought some life back. Then he goes to the Lakers and they win a championship when he’s assistant. He’s taken the Mavs to an ECF and Finals trips. Say what you want about his scheme, him as a person, but as a coach, he’s generally had success. You may not agree with him being the primary factor, but 3 separate stops kinda illustrates he’s doing something/has some effect.
The change in ownership made a bigger difference than anything Kidd did. They won 20 more games the year after they canned him.
I mean, we hired a coach that was a perfect fit. But before Kidd, our ceiling was a 40 win team and the 8 seed. He did co oetely chsnge the trajectory of this franchise along with Giannis and new ownership. Now was he the main factor? No. But ignore the fact he did make a contribution towards us taking that first step isn’t fair. The ]n goes to LA, wins a championship as an assistant. Again, main factor, probably not. But still a factor. And then goes the Dallas and he,os Luka make an WCF and NBA Finals in a loaded West. Again, I’m not saying “you put Kidd in a leadership role and it’ll work.” But everyywhere he’s been, he’s improved the trajectory and results of the franchise from where it was before he got hired. That’s not nothing. I’m just saying there probably is something there that it might not be the worst hire.
They won 41, 33, and 42 games in Kidd’s three full seasons before he got canned.
Kidd benefitted from having an ascending MVP and Midds when he was an elite defender.
Fear the Deer Bucks won 46 games pre-Kidd…
Drafting Giannis, trading for Midds, and hiring Bud are what truly changed the trajectory.
