The Trade was malpractice plain and simple.
This will ease the pain a bit but it is still going to hurt.

Nico was sold out by Adam Silver. It will come to light eventually that Silver forced him to take the Lakers trade to keep Lakers good post LeBron.
On Curry declining

I will say again here.
The Klay signing was leading to the Luka trade.
Everything went wrong since Klay got here.

I would also contact that Knicks training staff and see if they would also be interested in coming back to Dallas.
Oof that's a good one, didn't even thought of that. But i'm sure they are getting paid huge money and they know Dumont is stplans).ill the owner who at the end of the day approved all of the stuff that happened.
But it should bring at least Dirk back closer to the franchise, i hope.
Or bring Casey back...
If Dirk is up to the challenge, he'd be great at Fin's role (if Fin isn't and shouldn't be in long term plans). Learn the front office under Lindey or Myers.

So, will there be a complete rebuild, moving AD and Kyrie, or a toe in the water for someone like Jrue?
First thing they need to find a competent GM. I guess Dumont suddenly trusts Cuban again lol...
[MacMahon] Minority owner Mark Cuban.. has mapped out a plan for the front office's future. According to sources, Cuban hopes to hire Dennis Lindsey.. they have been in frequent dialogue in recent months, a significant change after Cuban was pushed completely out of basketball operations last season.
That's like going back to an ex who allowed you to date her best friend, not telling you how crazy she was. At least Cuban knows how talented Lindsey is. Here's an AI analysis...
Category | Projection / Action
---------------------|------------------------------------------------------------
Philosophy | Balanced rebuild with defensive identity and long-term asset growth
Win Projection | 39–42 wins (2025–26)
Cap Flexibility | High by 2026–27 (via veteran trades and expiring deals)
Playoff Odds | ~45% (competitive floor, upside with Flagg development)
Key Roster Moves | - Retain Cooper Flagg\n- Trade Kyrie Irving for picks/expirings\n- Move Gafford for wing depth\n- Sign veteran stabilizers (e.g., Delon Wright, Royce O’Neale)\n- Draft high-IQ role players
Coaching Strategy | Hire a defensive-minded coach (e.g., Charles Lee or Jordi Fernández)
Front Office Culture | Expand scouting and analytics; emphasize internal development and draft value
Strategic Notes
• Draft Focus: Lindsey excels at identifying undervalued talent (e.g., Gobert at #27, Mitchell at #13).
• Cap Management: Known for clearing space while maintaining competitiveness.
• Locker Room Stability: Prioritizes character and fit—expect fewer volatile personalities.
Year | Win Total | Playoff Odds | Cap Flexibility | Key Roster Moves | Draft Strategy | Coaching/Staff Moves
-----|-----------|---------------|------------------|-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------|--------------------------------------------|-----------------------
2025–26 | 39–42 | ~45% | ~$20M (2026) | - Trade Kyrie for picks/expirings\n- Move Gafford for wing depth\n- Sign Delon Wright, Royce O’Neale | Target high-IQ role players (e.g., Proctor) | Hire Charles Lee or Jordi Fernández
2026–27 | 44–47 | ~65% | ~$12M (2027) | - Extend Flagg\n- Sign mid-tier FA (e.g., Jaden Ivey)\n- Draft versatile wing | Two-way wings, defensive versatility | Expand analytics and scouting teams
2027–28 | 48–52 | ~80% | Near tax line | - Package picks for All-Star wing (e.g., Mikal Bridges-type)\n- Draft backup big | Depth-focused, playoff rotation pieces | Retain staff continuity, add veteran assistants

It seems that Nico went full toxicity after the new owners purchased in Dec '23. Does this give all parties amnesty for everything after that (Fin with the beer, Luka trade, Grimes trade, etc)?

All signs pointing to Dennis Lindsey being hired as the new GM. Not sure what role Dirk would have. If they are going to make a run at Luka as a free agent in ‘28-‘29 having Lindsey and Dirk to make the pitch would be pretty good.

If only they hadn’t said goodbye to a generational talent who was one of the best of all time at that very thing. “It’s the losing,” said a league source who spoke with Dumont about why Harrison was fired. “Can’t get off to a start like this (after making a trade like that) and survive.”

Finley trying to be the good guy now...
https://basketball.realgm.com/wiretap/282749/Michael-Finley-Voiced-Strongest-Opposition-To-Luka-Doncic-Trade
Michael Finley was the member of Nico Harrison's front office team who voiced the strongest opposition to the Luka Doncic trade to the Los Angeles Lakers, according to league sources.
Footage of Finley taking a celebratory beer away from Doncic after the Mavericks clinched their 2024 NBA Finals berth circulated widely on social media. However, the video omitted a key detail in which the drink was returned to Doncic once he was out of public view in the hallway of the visitors' locker room in Minnesota.
The incident occurred following Dallas's series-clinching victory on the road. Finley's action was intended to manage public optics rather than deny the celebration itself.

It's hard to determine who did what in the FO, but after the disastrous 22/23 off season, Mavs had a very good off season in 23/24, that was when Lindsey was there, so, seems like he had positive impact, my only criticism back then was going for Grant Williams with pick swap instead of targeting PJ directly, it was obvious PJ is a much better fit.
Defense wins draft lotteries!
Fortune favours the bold, so it ducked Nico Harrison.

That certainly puts things in a different light for me. If Fin did give him the beer back and was just worried about the cameras, it's understandable.
I also give pause to blaming anyone other than Nico for the Luka trade. Dude created a toxic echo chamber of "yes men". **** like that make it impossible to voice any contention.

All good news. I was afraid they would work around the edges. The more I think on it, trade AD if/as soon as he can pass a physical. AD out means he's eating his body weight of Nobu.
