Elgin Baylor

• Has 10 All-NBA 1st team selections, just as many as MJ, Kareem, Timmy and Jerry West.
• Averaged 27.4 points per game for his career without ever having access to a three-point shot. Many of his shots would be threes today, making his scoring even more remarkable. Only MJ has averaged more career points amongst Wing players throughout NBA history.
• Averaged 27.0 points and 12.9 rebounds per game for his playoff career—numbers unmatched by any Wing player in NBA history.
• Holds the NBA Finals single-game scoring record: 61 points (Game 5, 1962 Finals). He also grabbed 22 rebounds in that same game.
• In 1960 (his selected season), he had a game of 52 points, 25 rebounds, and 10 assists—a triple-double of historic proportions long before the stat became common.
• Was doing eurosteps and floaters before they existed. Baylor regularly used side-step drives, change-of-direction finishes, and soft floaters decades before these moves became mainstream. Many coaches at the time didn’t even have names for what he was doing.
• Although known for scoring, Baylor was also a strong, physically punishing defender. Opponents described him as having “linebacker strength with guard coordination.”
• Is considered one of the NBA’s original positionless players. Baylor was a Forward with the skill set of a Guard: ballhandling, mid-air adjustments, passing, rebounding, and scoring from anywhere. Coaches often called him a “1-through-4 hybrid” before such terms existed.
• Per Oscar Robertson, Baylor is the greatest of all time. Here's the exact quote: ''Who do I think was the greatest? This might shock you: Elgin Baylor. He did so many great things. Nobody could guard him, playing in the Forward spot. I'd love to see some of today's greats playing against Elgin. They couldn't guard him. Nobody could.''
