Mavs talk starts at 17:30.
Good points.
IMO any PG traded for will be a big PG who is a POA defender (and hopefully young). Candidates...
1. Dyson Daniels ATL, 22yo, 6'-7"... is perfect, but ATL isn't letting him go, especially with how he's running their offense with Trey out. The perfect match with Kyrie. Great match with Max.
2. Isiah Collier UTA, 21yo, 6'-4"... great team defender (all the tools to be an elite POA--Derrick White starter kit), attacks the basket, nice distributor, but I'd worry about his high usage paired with Kyrie, but Kyrie jelled with Luka. Great match with Max.
3. Davion Mitchell MIA, 27yo, 6'-0"... elite POA defender, excellent distributor, low volume shooter. Good match with Kyrie. Good match with Max.
4. Ryan Rollins MIL, 23yo, 6'-3"... good team defender (not POA), young, shooting 40.4% from 3, is dropping dimes on a high rate. Not a great match with Kyrie. OK match with Max, but would be lacking in athleticism.
5. Immanuel Quickly TOR, 26yo, 6'-2"... solid POA defender, elite team defender, good distributor, ok shot selection and scoring. Because of size, not a great match with Kyrie. Great match with Max
6. Jrue Holiday POR, 35yo, 6'-4"... Still an elite POA, nice distributor when needed, but scoring is down. IMO, would be a nice fit with Kyrie. I'm not totally for it, but I could see the FO going after Jrue. Great match with Max.
7. Coby White, 25yo, 6'-4"... average defender, efficient and prolific scorer, more of a combo guard. Poor match with Kyrie defensively. OK match with Max (would need POA defender).
8. Jose Alvarado... elite POA defender, really good distributor, lacks size and scoring. Because of size, not a great match with Kyrie. Great match with Max.
9. LaMelo Ball CHA, 24yo, 6'-7"... elite distributor, opportunist defender in help and passing lanes, below average defender otherwise, terrible shot selection but prolific scorer, durability issues. With coaching perhaps the shot selection would improve (look at PJ as an example) and would need an elite POA guard paired with him. Terrible match with Kyrie. Not a great match with Max. Would need an elite POA SG.
Keepers at all costs:
a. Cooper/PJ... IMO are the core going forward. While Cooper probably can become an elite POA, I'd rather get that from a guard and let PJ and Cooper wreck both wings and stretch bigs.
Probably Keepers:
b. Kyrie... unless there is a deal you can't refuse, Kyrie will be here after the TDL. I'm big on sitting Kyrie the rest of the year for team tank.
c. Max... dependable and consistent shooter and team defender. Lacks elite athleticism. He could be a go-forward piece as a second string SG.
d. Gaff... he's coveted by many teams and has a decent contract. He could be a go-forward piece with a shooting C (like Kessler).
e. Naji... unique distribution and midrange game. Good defender. He could be a go-forward piece as Cooper's backup.
f. BWill... dude is a blur, can score, but has terrible court vision. He could be a go-forward piece as a 6th man.
g. Cisse... instant energy and athleticism. He needs a roster spot.
h. Nembhard... elite distributor, good team and on the ball defender, low volume shooter, good catch and shooter, undersized. He could be a go-forward backup like Quickley in NYK and McBride.
Trade:
i. AD... I say trade him as soon as you get decent value. He's not coming off a serious injury (like Kyrie) so the league knows his baseline abilities now. I'm scared to death to play him and end up with a season/career ending injury.
j. Klay... has value on a contender. Trade ASAP.
k. Martin... would probably need to be paired with a more valuable piece to undo Nico's idiocy. Trade once a deal is available.
l. DLo... terrible fit, but at his price tag, may be valuable to another team. Trade ASAP.
m. Hardy... needs to be featured in team tank. If he proves he can be an efficient shooter at a higher volume, he'll have great value in a trade.
n. DLive... I say put a fork in his Mavs' future and feature him in team tank (if he ever gets healthy). If surgery is needed, you really have no choice but to sit him, hope for recovery, and trade next year.
