I dont think many nba fans would call Herb Jones redundant because Walsh and Minott have show brief flashes of being a tier below herb
Herb is a proven NBA starter with ELITE defense 1-3 and the ability to make 3s.

The flashes that Walsh and Mynot have shown will be enough.
Besides, Pels just extended Herb, I don't think they will trade him.
Or the Pels will be asking for a 1st round pick, which Brad won't do.

At this point I’d rather have Walsh or Minott than Herb Jones. He is riddled with injuries and seems like he has peaked already.
Walsh and Minott are both having a better season this year. A couple years back Jones was a great defender, but as much now.

yeah, I loved Herb from draft prep on, but the injuries are just tough. I don't know about peaking, but he hasn't shown the ability to stay healthy. If he ever does, I'm sure he'll bounce back. But, with our current guys, I don't think it's worth the risk. And financially, it just makes more sense to keep the cheap guys.

Herb Jones is a bit foul prone and he averages 4.5 rebounds per 40 over the course of his career. He is not a good shooter and with the exception of last season's small sample size, on/off metrics show that he generally has not had much impact on the Pels' defense.
I don't see the appeal.
Jose Alvarado has been playing his ass off and deserves to play for a better team, and Looney isn't that old and could help us. But the salaries wouldn't match.

Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints: “Keep an eye on the Bucks, LA Clippers, Miami Heat, Portland Trail Blazers, and Memphis Grizzlies as suitable destinations for DeRozan.”
I wouldn't mind Celtics being in that mix. DeRozan at 10M next year would be a good add, imo.
Simons and Hauser for DeRozan and Ellis.

Shoot. I was even interested if he got $24 million next year. Unfortunately I don't see Portland wanting Hauser at $10 million for three more seasons, if they could just keep DeRozan for one. This type of trade would open the door to pick up a $5-10 million PG and legitimately use the Porzingis $22.5 M and/or Simons $27M Tpe's for a championship big man to team with Queta.
Brad Stevens on fans who want the Celtics to tank: "I don’t think they’ll like me all that much then."

Apparently there was some truth to that AD to the Bulls talk.
Here:
https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/47154935/from-6-1-9-10-make-curious-chicago-bulls-start
The Bulls have had internal discussions about how to proceed, including conversations about Dallas Mavericks star Anthony Davis, sources told ESPN, whom they believe could help the team's porous rim protection and defensive interior.
Vucevic could be an option for the Cs.

It doesn't say anything in that article about the C's.
Nothing wrong with having a different opinion - as long as it's done respectfully. It'd be lame if we all agreed on everything

It doesn't have to.
Simons to Boston for Jrue Holiday shocked us all because there were no rumors about Simons to Boston.

Re: Free Agent/Trade/Waiver Thread, 2025-26, part 2
In my opinion, I'm off the Nikola Vucevic train.
Per 36 minutes:
Vucevic 19.3 ppg, 11.5 rpg, .490 FG Pct, .396 3PT Pct, .565 eFG Pct, 117 DRTG - $21.5 million
Garza 16.6 ppg, 9.6 rpg, .565 FG Pct, .440 3PT Pct, .645 eFG Pct, 118 DRTG - $2.5 million
Not a perfect analysis but you are getting basically the same type of player. Good on offense, horrible on defense in Garza over Vucevic for $19 million less. If the Celtics trade Simons, I would hope it's a more useful player than Nikola Vucevic. I trust Brad Stevens.

If there is an AD trade. Vuc almost certainly has to be salary ballast. Unlikely that the Cs are a third team in that scenario shipping off Simons.

Yeah I don’t want Vuc.
We are looking at next year when Tatum is back to really need another big, and he is old plus a free agent. If the Celtics really want a dude like Vuc they will have the mid level.

The only way Stevens would trade for Vucevic in my opinion is a straight salary dump. Simons $27.7 million for Vucevic's $21.5 million, saving $6.2 million. I don't see it.

3-team it with CHA and they get Vuc and we get Sexton. Then everyone who likes Simons can just transfer their love and not really know the difference. Plus we save a few mil more.

Why would Charlotte do that?
Add another $3mil to their payroll for what? They're going nowhere this season, they're tanking, rebuilding. I'm sure that given the choice, they'd prefer the player between Sexton and Vooch who is younger and on the cheaper contract..

Just spitballing, but they could use a big to backup/mentor Kalk. They have plenty of guards. Get a trial on Vuc and see if they wanna resign him or not. Maybe they need a 2nd or something too.

2026 pick is too valuable right now. Agreed.
Not sure simons does it though even with a pick especially when thier pick goes to OKC..
