2024 NBA Draft Thread

Cody needs the G-League just for confidence reasons. If you can't beat out journeyman Svi, then you're not long for the NBA. He shows none of the hunger of his older brother.

The role he had in college--handling the ball in the middle of the floor, using his physical advantages to beat other guards, getting shots and building rhythm, etc.--isn't translating to the NBA. He needs to reinvent himself as a 3D guy (Herb Jones, Jeramy Grant, Royce O'Neale, etc.). He needs to get used to shooting off of spot-ups. Right now, he just doesn't touch the ball much.

I wasn't a member of this forum when this draft happened, but this draft is shaping up to be mediocre outside of a few guys, mostly the polarizing players.

A skilled 7' 4" center, one of the best per-possession freshman college guards in NCAA history who can shoot and deflects passes, Euro prospects in Sarr/Risacher/Buzelis while the two athletic wing prospects in Castle/Holland still have some potential.

There are also some major misses, Dillingham, Salaun, Williams, Topic, Carrington and Carter round out a relatively disappointing Lottery.

Ware, McCain, Da Silva, Missi, George, TSJ round out the prospects who should have long NBA careers with Collier/Dunn having an outside chance as well. The 2nd round included Mitchell, Wells and Shead, but that's about it.

Topic has never played a second in the NBA due to an ACL tear and testicular cancer, how are you writing him off as a miss already, lol.

I'm not, but up to this point, he is nothing. He might become something, he might not.

way too early to be calling anyone "misses" especially with all the poor landing spots. These teams had no business taking 1/2 these guys given their rosters. 1/2 the teams are trying to compete and were already 8 deep and the other 1/2 were bad teams that already had young prospects at their positions they couldn't find minutes for taken in the previous drafts. Same thing happened to 2023 kids as well. 2025 really lucked out in this regard as many guys landed in perfect spots for immediate heavy minutes, mostly due to injuries. This has given fuel to the narrative that this is a great draft class as a result. But besides the following who are getting heavy minutes the class hasn't done much

Flagg - elite so it doesn't matter but with injuries to Kyrie and AD and the cupboard being bare he has all the usage he can handle
Edgecomb - McCain, George and Embiid injuries
Fears - Dejounte injury
Queen - Zion and Missi injuries
Kon - Miller and Ball injuries
Demin - team pretty much starting from scratch and trying to justify him being their top pick
Coward - Ja and Morant injuries
Kalkbrenner - drafted by team without a center

I think people have awful memories and/or are just plain ignorant about past draft classes. There's surprisingly not many starters/rotational players from each draft. The 2024 class has just as many of these (already) as most. The only thing it was missing is that elite, all-nba caliber guy(s) you find in pretty much every other draft class. That absence doesn't mean it's weak.
