I wonder if they just don’t want him in the clubhouse anymore? I have no idea if he has a poor attitude, but DFA’ing him seems odd.

we're still on the hook for his 7mil so it'd make very little sense to just let him go this early in the summer.
maybe we're opening up a 40 man spot for someone..... diaz? suarez?

There’s no need to do that until we actually sign someone tho. Is there?
Also, I only count 38 guys on the current 40 man roster.

i mean he's not cheap right?

Before this they had 38 players on the 40 man roster. Now they have 37. They didn’t need to do this to sign anybody.

It’s simply a move to open up roster space; I expect they had a pretty good idea he wouldn’t be claimed given his salary (and didn’t care if would be either).

He's not on the 40 man roster but still in the organization. If someone were willing to take his salary then they would have. This is probably the best path forward with him. Maybe they can stash him in AAA and see if he can provide some length to be a depth starting pitching option. As a reliever he's replaceable.

What the history of big-money closer deals says about the Mets’ Edwin Díaz decision - The New York Post
Bringing back Edwin Díaz is still the Mets’ hope, though it’s not a certainty. The Post’s Jon Heyman has reported the Mets do not want to extend a fifth year for Díaz, a reliable and dominant pitcher (freak injury aside) but aging — that fifth year would keep him in Queens through his year-36 season.
Let’s make sense of the Mets’ hesitation:
• There are four relievers signed to five-year contracts currently. Josh Hader (29) was the oldest at the time of signing. Yuki Matsui was 28 when he inked a deal with the Padres. Emmanuel Clase (whoops) signed an extension with the Guardians at 24, and Arizona’s Justin Martinez (who underwent Tommy John surgery in June) signed at 23.
Díaz will be 32 in March.
• This century there have been two relievers who signed five-year deals entering their year-30 season or later. Robert Suarez — in whom the Mets have shown interest — signed a five-year deal with the Padres at 31 after one major league season and a journey through independent leagues, Japan and Mexico. The decision was smart: Suarez pitched well enough in his first two years of the deal to opt out this winter. B.J. Ryan was about to turn 30 when he signed a $47 million, five-year pact with the Blue Jays in Nov. 2005. Ryan was an All-Star in 2006, required Tommy John surgery in 2007, was solid in 2008 and released in 2009.

Forget who he signs with, what's everyone opinion on either Tucker, Bo or one of the other big positional bats signing by mid next week. (During or after winter meetings).
If you recall Soto signed during the winter meetings last year
