If we were able to sign either Eason or Kessler -- or both! -- I'd be ecstatic.

I've identified multiple targets already: Lonzo Ball, Maxi Kleber, Gabe Vincent, Mike Conley, Yabusele, Tyus Jones, Nic Batum. And if we use the Lakers as an intermediary with the contracts of Kleber and Vincent, we can effectively combine our two $14M TPE's into one big TPE and help a team unload a bigger salary like Kuminga, or Simons.
In return for draft capital I assume. Great.

YES to Tari Eason. Still pissed we didn't draft him last go around. I think he is going to take off wherever he ends up next.
Also, is there a world where we trade for Jimmy Butler to help out GSW and help us get to the cap floor? Would love Jimmy in the locker room with our young bucks next season.
and a big hell no to Zion.

Trading away an Israeli and then signing someone named Zion just seems wrong somehow.

I'm not sure that's a good idea. We're talking about a guy who forced his way off of two teams (Miami and Philly). I don't know if Jimmy is the kind of veteran who will be well behaved if the team isn't winning.
That's also a $56.8M contract you are talking about there. That's a lot of money that could be spent on free agents who would have a long term impact on our future.

He only has one year left right? Another great Wiz rehab stint and a team with Trae, Jimmy and our young bucks + (hopefully a top 3-4 pick) and they're playoff bound. Let Jimmy walk in the offseason. Would be like Russ 2.0.

Jimmy is 36 years old and will be 37 before we have any chance to trade him for value. You don't rehab the value of a 37 year old. Nobody will ever pay anything close to $56M for a 37 year old coming off on an ACL injury. It is totally impossible to extract value out of that contract.
Westbrook was 32 when we acquired him. Big difference.

I'm moreso thinking short term with the cap floor and if GSW has any picks to attach to Jimmy to help get them out of cap hell. I don't want Jimmy on this team long term and/or expect to flip him before the trade deadline. Moreso thinking how desperate GSW is right now.

Okay. That's different. If Golden State coughs up FRP's for us to absorb Jimmy, that's certainly worth considering.
I don't think they will though. If they want to avoid the luxtax, it'll be easier to try and offload Kuminga. And if they are willing to spend picks to offload guys and save the luxtax, they will probably try and pay to offload Hield before offloading Jimmy.

Watched some Zion highlights and I'm ready. Bring him in and I'll pay to watch him dunk on everyone for the next couple of years. His body will give out no later than about 27 or 28 - you can only go so long on a diet of hennessy and doritos - but he'll be fun to watch for a while with this group.
Can't say I do. Who else gonna shoot?

On one hand, I think some people are underestimating just how good Zion is when healthy, and how flexible his contract is. On the other hand, I'd have been much more interested in Zion before the Trae deal. Either one raises the floor and adds excitement without greatly impacting cap flexibility. But both of them together seems like it would take the team pretty far from their current goal of a fluid offense and switchable defense.

Nope. Fails the no knuckle-heads policy. Let him be someone else's headache.

I think they might be stuck with Jimmy but Draymond is tradable and so I kuminga. I posted an idea where we help facilitate a trade where they send picks to Brooklyn and adjust our protections on the 2030 pick . To turn Draymond kuminga and pod into porter JR Mann and Bagley. That's something doable.nate33 wrote:Tyrone Messby wrote:nate33 wrote:Jimmy is 36 years old and will be 37 before we have any chance to trade him for value. Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVIII
Saw on the trade baord a Bagley to the Knicks trade. Would we trade Bags to the Knicks for own 2 2nd round picks would be listed as our protected first round pick this year)? That 2nd round pick this year should be pretty high. Would give us like 16 2nd rounders this year but something like 30 (from OKC) and 35 (our 2nd rounder) should get us up to maybe #25? Or throw in one or more of our other 2nd rounders if needed or to get higher.

Hard to believe they'd give up that much for an expiring Bagley. TBH, I'd rather lock him up for a few years at low cost.

I'd do it for us because there's always the chance the tank doesn't tank enough and our luck is bad enough to lose the pick. It's not a high chance but it's real and a UFC Bagley, though I like him, isn't a significant asset. I might even throw back one of our other 2nds.

Yeah Bagley is the same as what's his name we traded last year for 4 seconds he has way out preformed his deal and you need to capitalize on that.

Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVIII
That would make sense except of course he's expiring. You're not trading his deal.
&, in any case, if a good player who's signed cheap is good for another team, it's also good for you. Hence, as I have suggested, the best thing to do with Bagley right now is to sign him long term. Not only does that give us positive price/performance, but it also gives us more head room to sign a FA -- & an even more tradable asset.

I wonder if Bagley is willing though. He's a little different than Justin C was. Justin was a guy who had worked through the G-league and was ready to jump on a multi-year nba deal no matter how low the base. Bags played through a whole #2 pick rookie contract. He seems smart, so I suspect he already has his financial security. And recently, he's been able to re-invent himself as a rebounding energy big. Maybe he bets on himself? Takes a one-year deal from somewhere and tries to leverage it into a bigger contract?
