We signed him to a one year deal. He seems like he can decent when motivated. Hopefully he hasn't ballooned up to 400 pounds.

1 Year deal for 5 million plus a possible 2 million in incentives must mean they think he's got something left in the tank.

its really not that much money, and actually a pretty good deal, when you compare the salaries of recent multi-year deals like carlos silva's

Carlos Silva 4/ $48 million
13 - 14 202IP 1.31 WHIP 4.19ERA 20Quality Starts 89K's

Livan Hernandez 1/ $5 million

11-11 204IP 1.60 WHIP 4.93 ERA 19 Quality Starts 90 K's

Based on ERA and WHIP, carlos is the superior pitcher, but Silva's salary this year is twice that of hernandez. Does anyone think that Silva is twice as good as hernandez?

It seems like Bill Smith got a bargain in comparison to the apparent market value of starting pitching.

I like the deal. I could possibly see Liriano work his way back in the bullpen.

Baker
Bonser
Hernandez
Slowey
Humber

Thats only from your list Dont think theres anyone else is there?

If Liriano is healthy, he's starting.

Humber's a nice guy and I wish him well, but he's shown me nothing to indicate he's ready to be a fulltime starter. I wouldn't be surprised to see Humber in your pen at the start of the year. And, don't get me wrong, I wish him well. before his surgury he was a top prospect.

but as far as your rotation this year, I'd be surprised if Humber pitches well enough to be in your 5.
