Although Curry and Crawford have questionable value and some relatively big contracts, they do have talent. Lee is their own version of Humphries.
I wonder if the Raps were to package something like Rasho, Dixon, Graham, Baston and maybe Kapono (if he wasn't BYC)- if they couldn't convert some of our less used assets into some players that would be part of the rotation. The advantage for the Knicks is that most of these players will be off the books, and they could start to clean house...
Honestly, even though Curry is another bad rebounder, he has size and offensive talent. He would basically be a straight-up for Rasho. He would conceivably come in and start at center, although between himself and Bargs, the center minutes would be occupied.
Crawford could be our sixth man off the bench, offering scoring and the ability to handle the ball a bit as a third lead guard in some situations.
David Lee is probably their most tradeable asset, and would give us a hussle guy that we could try to re-sign this summer along with Delfino. It would be nice to be able to have the offensive fire-power of Bargs and Curry as bigs, but at the same time, imagine being able to run with Bosh/Hump/Lee/Moon/TJ as an athletic defensive unit that could get on the glass.
Anyways, I'm not a cap expert, and I know that there is little interest in guys like Curry and Crawford, especially since they've been marred by their association with the debacle that has occured in New York.
But any time you have a highly distressed situation, where the problems off the court and the dysfunction on it, you have the potential for bargain opportunities. Some players who are not as selfish and as ineffective as they seem in that context can see their value impacted by proxy.
Okay one thing Raptor fans fail to recognize is
YOU HAVE TO GIVE UP SOMETHING TO GET SOMETHING!
There is no value there at all! Guys that sit on the end of our bench are not attractive to any NBA TEAMS! NONE OF THEM! Whether its for cap relief or not unless you can justify moving Curry and Crawford immediately, there is no trade there. They have absorbed bad contracts for so long now, its become commonplace. The only way we get Curry or Crawford is if we send them Calderon or Bargs, nothing else is even worth discussing in the eyes of the Knicks brass.
Curry would only compound our rebounding woes and our lack of interior defense. Crawford can't play in a system. David Lee is nice but can't play the 3 so he has no value here.
