i always see gordons name mentioned in the trade but i think he'd be one of the players who would benefit most from having a gasol in the middle. He wouldn't have to create nearly as much and when he did he wouldn't be playing 1 on 2 as he so often as it is now.

Gasol dropped 43 on the Warriors tonight.

Nice game by Gasol in an up and down no D game. Wake me when he wins a playoff game.

Those playoffs games were against the Suns, Mavs and San Antonio at their best moment. Gasol has won as many playoffs games against San Antonio as say... Lebron James.
If you don't like Gasol, fine, he has some crappy holes in his game. But to bring back those games against those teams to level Gasol, it's not fair.

he did it on purpose just to prod me into hoping for him to become a Bull more than I am now.

Most definitely, I would love to keep both around if we were to acquire such a player. Pity I doubt Hinrich would truly interest them :(.

they do not want - or need - Wallace & Hinrich

Nocioni is the only key left. It must involve him as the center-piece

Okay, here's an idea that most of you will probably dislike:

Wallace, Deng, Noah, 2008 first for Gasol, Miller

Why for Memphis? Cardinal, Wallace, and Darko would expire the same year. If Memphis wants to continue with the fast-break concept, Deng and Noah are fantastic long-term fits with their unselfish, athletic style of play. Wallace is a bad fit, but if it looks like he's tearing the team apart, they can always quickly involve a third team and get shorter deals- how about NY, Malik Rose and Quentin Richardson.

Memphis:

1 Lowry / Stoudamire / Conley
2 Richardson / Navarro
3 Gay / Cardinal / Jacobsen
4 Deng / Warrick / Rose
5 Milicic / Noah / Swift

Why for Chicago? Bulls retain the same team, and I have enough confidence in the surplus of forwards to take a chance with them over Deng's star potential. I like Luol, and I can imagine him becoming a beast, but I can't imagine him becoming a superstar, which is why I think he's tradeable.

1 Hinrich / Duhon / Curry
2 Gordon / Miller / Griffin
3 Nocioni / Sefolosha / Nichols
4 Smith / Thomas / Khryapa
5 Gasol / Gray

One less contract negotiation, more playing time for Thomas and Sefolosha, more proven scoring (Miller / Gasol), still good depth. Cons? We might really regret losing Deng and Noah.

Interesting stuff on Pau and others. I would imagine that Pau's value is actually lower than it was this time last year, due to his lowered level of play and the fans reactions towards him. I hear they are not too pleased with him, and often boo him.

I also think that Ben Gordon would benefit greatly with the addition of Gasol. But I wouldn't do much more than Hinrch/Nocioni/filler for him.

:edit:

And I could throw in Tyrus in that Kirk/Noc deal. That I could live with.

What does it take to get people to understand that Memphis DOES NOT WANT WALLACE???

Their fans have come here often trying to get us to understand that.

Yet, no sooner is it said than someone proposes another trade trying to dump Wallace on them.

If we were able to swing a deal for Gasol, than Wallace might be heading to the Lakers in a salary dump (AKA Chnadler for PJ Brown)

lol @ big threee

we don't HAVE a big three

you're talking as if Kirk is a great player or something, I'd ship his ass out of here QUICK for Pau Gasol. They have Conley and Lowry, much better PG's than Kirk anyway.

Yes, but in my trade idea, it either leaves them with all their big salaries ending in two years (including Wallace's), or I am sure NYK would consider Wallace for Malik Rose and Quentin Richardson... two players on the other hand that Memphis could make use of. Not to mention they get a first pick, Deng AND Noah. Completely reasonable trade on both ends, in my opinion...

IMO it's not the worst trade in the world, but it wouldn't get done. Memphis doesn't want Wallace, and I don't see them wanting Rose & QRich from NY either.

Also, if we were to do a trade like that we would have to get Navarro as well. Miller could play spot minutes at SG but primarily he has to defend SFs.

Bottom line is that, as others have written, there are probably only a few teams that would take Wallace. Lakers, Knicks... maybe one or two others, but not many.

If any trade DOES go down, which I doubt, I still think that it'll be something like this:
Bulls trade: Gordon, Nocioni, Thomas
Bulls get: Gasol, Navarro

Memphis:
Stoudamire, Lowry, Conley
Gordon, Miller, Richardson
Gay, Miller, Nocioni
Noc, TT, Swift
Darko, Swift, TT

Bulls:
Kirk, Duhon, JCN
Thabo, JCN, Griff
Deng, Thabo, Griff, VK
Gasol, Smith, Noah
BW, Gasol, Noah, Gray

Then we would pray desperately that we could either get Raja Bell from Phoenix for Thabo, VK and a future 1st or Bonzi Wells from Houston for Thabo.

Kirk, Du, JCN
Bell (or Wells)/ JCN/ Griff
Deng, Bell (or Wells), Griff
Gasol, Smith, Noah
BW, Gasol, Noah, Gray

I agree. That pretty much does the trick.

....

Kidding aside, Gasol is an interesting player. He is a big, multi-skilled player and has a lot of value because of that. However, he is not a superstar and doesn't seem to have great leadership qualities or a superstar mentality.

He really isn't a great guy to build a team around although he would be a great complement to a team with the right people. Is Chicago that place?

Ideally, I would want to create this team:
Kirk / Ben G
Big athletic slashing guard who can play the 2 or 3 / Ben G
Deng / see above
Noah or Tyrus / Smith
Gasol / Gray

Total salary would be (next year)
Gasol $15M
Kirk $10M
Deng $9M
Ben G $8.5M
Noah $2.5M
Smith $5M
Gray $0.5M
Total = $50.5M + big guard + bench guys

Between $50.5M and the luxury tax, you have a lot of room to pay a big guard and the bench.

If the team still had Wallace, it basically would be impossible to retain Kirk, Deng and Gordon.

So, the question for you super geniuses at trading, come up with a trade where you send out:
Nocioni
Tyrus or Noah
1st round pick
Ben Wallace
Thabo Sefolosha
Duhon

and get back
Gasol
Big guard who can play the 2 or 3.

As commented before, Memphis isn't taking Wallace, so you have to find a third party.

Great. If we did that trade maybe we could sign Scott Skiles for the vet min. he may be out of shape but let him play the point with Kirk.

just kidding

It's not a flattering deal, but Deng, Noah, mid 1st-round pick, Richardson and Malik Rose (near expiring) is fair value for Gasol, who has been declining in value (used to be considered a future MVP candidate) and his team continues to lose as the payroll grows. Especially given that Memphis' coach wants to play up-tempo like Phoenix; having an athletic passer like Noah could turn out great. Throwing Miller in makes it easier for Memphis to say no, but maybe there's an alternative idea; I sure as hell don't want Cardinal though.

New York could use some rebounding/defensive/passing help. Wallace is past the hill, but NY is class-A at picking up over-the-hill players and hoping for the best. And who knows? Maybe it works out.

Just because they're friends, I don't see Memphis trading Navarro with Gasol. He is a bargain deal right now; making pennies and a great veteran scorer.
