The official I miss Scott Skiles thread

Post#1 » by anorexorcism » Mon Jan 14, 2008 6:51 pm

Seriously, if Scooter was still around I hate to say it but I think we would have at least turned it around by now to 16-19 at least. As much as I hated the guy this year and what he did, this team meeting garbage and Ben Wallace pretty much holding the team hostage, on the court and off the court, is dooming whatever chance we had of rebounding from a slow start and turning this into a historically horrible season for the ages.

Had Skiles been around he would have been unafraid to bench Wallace for playing like absolute crap. I get the feeling that pressure was put on him by upper management to give BW minutes when he deserved none, and then when he had the chance to show off how well he could play the team without BW (win vs Washington, L vs Boston) the stage was set for his final stand (L vs houston).

Seriously though I kind of feel like we would have started our turnaround had Skiles still been here. This team is going to deteriorate all the way to the depths of hell the longer we keep Wallace around.

He has become everything that we feared Tim Thomas, JR Smith, and various other "team cancers" we let go were supposed to be. In a sense Wallace is worse because he was brought in to be a leader and the move has completely backfired as now he's probably started a civil war amongst the team.

This is going to get much, much uglier with every loss. Had Skiles been around, the rebellion would have been quenched. But not with spineless Jimmy at the helm.

I'm glad he's gone. But I'll participate purely to say that I now wish he would have been retained until this weekend because I would have liked to have seen how he would have publicly responded to Jo blowing up on Ron Adams.

Of course, Jo would most likely not have blown up at Ron Adams had Skiles been here due to the subtle changes in history that result from even minor happenings, let alone significant ones, but lets just ignore that for the time being.

Skiles or Boylan, this team would still be in shambles. If anything, we'd be worse under Skiles as the team had reportedly quit on him while they've yet to "quit" on Boylan, per se.

Boylan needs to go at the end of the season though. We need a completely new set of schemes on both sides of the ball; ones that might actually take into account the strengths of our players, not just peg them into certain positions regardless of their skill sets.

I'm not saying I miss Scott Skiles, but I am saying that more and more, it is becoming apparent that he was scapegoated.

I don't I'm glad he is gone . If he was here the record would be worse . The team tuned him out. This team needs a real Coach . Who can coach Good offense and defense . Skiles was a terrible Offensive coach

I was expecting this thread to turn up weeks ago, it's overdue really. That being said I'm still glad he is gone, it got to the point where I was so sick of Skiles I couldn't care less who we had to replace him.

Sure things aren't peachy, but IMO the first step was to fire him, gladly we took that step.

Boylan clearly isn't a longterm option though.

+1000000000000

I wanted him gone...as in I wanted his coaching methodology gone.

Boylans doing the same now though. So I am really satrting to beleive that Skiles was guilty of a more serious infraction, or that Paxson needed a scapegoat.

Thats absolutely true! At the beginning I liked him and i thought he could even be a "real" head coach for a NBA team, but I'm somehow starting to see him as an assistant again (it's hard to describe), or as a temporary solution and I think event the players have that feeling.
I think they dont respect him as much as they did with Skiles.

At first i was glad that we fired Skiles, but I dont know why, he was a good Bulls coach.
And the only thing I like about Boylan is that he let them run and play a bit more uptempo.

I was very high up on the fire Skiles bandwagon. To some extent, I do miss Scott Skiles right now. The results of him being removed have been:
- More entitlement minutes for vets
- Worse defense

The only positive I can see is that Thabo may have his career revived. I don't think he would have received a shot to play guard under Skiles. He still needs to learn how to shoot though.

Most of the rationale and reasons for Scott being fired have gotten worse under Boylan. If you believe Paxson though, that may change soon. IMO, this team has until the all star break to turn it around. If they can't, then we will see the entitlement minutes shift to the young guys.

Agreed. Skiles needed to go. Finding a better replacement hasn't happened yet though.

That, or Boylan suffers from some of the same problems as Skiles. Which I think is true to a certain extent (but not completely).

But, wouldnt the interim coach be more malleable to managament than say the head coach?

In other words, Boylan has no levrage when compared to Scottie. So why the hell is he doing the same things that Skiles was doing?

I think its because Wallace / Joe etc. were promised minutes by JR /Pax.

Its all very unclear now, but definitely there are some gaps in thinking/rationale.

As I said before Skiles was let go, turning this around is going to be difficult. Best case scenario is/was that the problem is coaching, because that's the easiest one to fix.

If the problem is the players, then we as fans are completely screwed because we are pretty much stuck with them or the crap we will receive in trade.

My mental hit list (in order that I would like to see people dumped):
1. Skiles
2. Wallace
3. Duhon
4. Boylan
5. Hinrich or Gordon
6. Nocioni
7. Hinrich or Gordon

How can we miss someone that never left. I mean Scott Skiles is gone but we basically have Scott Skiles Lite. Nothing has changed. Nothing new. Nothing we havent done before. Its just now he wants to ride Smith and Wallace to death. Thats the only real difference. Its safe to say, Boylan probably wont be back next year.

Um... one person said they missed Skiles. Paxson wanted Skiles gone, is he a hater? Big ol' meanie hater?

I don't think Paxson misses Skiles. Just a wild guess.

And you do realize that, in life, if you fire someone who was doing a bad job, generally hiring that person's "right hand man" doesn't work.

I didn't want Skiles gone unless Kirk was launched and the team still didn't respond. I doubt any coach could turn this ship around with Kirk playing like 3 month old a$$.

If John Paxson threw Scott Skiles under the bus in attempt to get the team back on track and replaced him with a clone, the real problem isn't with Skiles.

I'm happy he's gone. Hope the door didn't hit him too hard on the way out.

I want Boylan gone just as much.
Trade Wallace

(this worked for Skiles. Lets go for 2)

BINGO.

Had we fired Skiles and gotten someone who'd play Thabo/Tyrus over Adrian I'd have been a lot happier. If we were planning on playing the same exact way, what's the advantage of not giving Skiles a chance... Unless you're into the whole every player hated Skiles thing, then I guess it was a necessity.
