OT: How about a movie thread

i usually can't stand that kind of movie but i saw superbad in the summer and i loved it

i got the bourne ultimatum from netflix a week ago and loved that too

i liked superbad, but got really sick of Jonah Hill at times. Michael Cera is just a hilarious actor though and his humor is even that much more funny because it is very subtle. That would be my biggest complaint about Juno, not enough Michael Cera. I sound like a little girl right now, but he's hilarious. When he sang "these eyes" in superbad, that was just a classic scene.

Here's a relatively unheard of movie (at least here in the U.S.) but it's def. worth checking out...it's from Thailand...entitled "Shutter." Here's a synopsis from amazon.com

A young photographer Thun and his girlfriend Jane discover mysterious shadows in their photographs after fleeing the sceen of an accident. As they investigate the phenomenon, they find other photographs contain similar supernatural images, that Thun's best friends are being haunted as well, and Jane discovers that her boyfriend has not told her everything. It soon becomes clear that you can not escape your past.

It's very well made and is very creepy!

As far as comedies go....as everyone has already talked about, "Superbad" is hilarious! "Knocked Up" isn't bad either. Although, I can't get enough of the Broken Lizard group and their movies..."Super Troopers," "Club Dread," and "Beerfest." I realize those are fairly old...but they're still great movies. Also, the Simon Pegg movies "Shaun of the dead," and "Hot Fuzz" were terrific as well.

i heard beerfest was one of the worst movies of 2006. Club dread didn't do anything for me.

Beerfest wasn't horrible...it wasn't great either, but those broken lizard movies are all about mindless entertainment. Just have to be in the right mood for it...being in graduate school sometimes I get too burned out from studying that I enjoy pointless movies sometimes.

Yep, too bad it was pretty much forgotten at the box office. I tend to like any good spy movie made by directors not addicted to shaky cams (damn you Paul Greengrass!).

I'm a huge Broken Lizard fan. I rank their movies in this order

right now they're shooting "The Slammin Salmon" and have six more movies ready to be made after the strike including Super Troopers 2.

I also saw The Bucket List on Saturday night. Really good movie...I'm 25 and I was the youngest person in the theatre.

Worst movie I've seen this year: I AM LEGEND. IMO it was a movie where four writers came together and would each write a quarter of a movie without knowing the other three-quarters and it was put together into a film that people booed at. I saw it on opening night at Mayfair and a third of the theatre booed at the end, including me.

Yeah Michael Cera is awesome. I get really excited every time he's in a movie simply because I am/was a HUGE Arrested Development fan and he was amazing in that show (as was everyone else). Leave it to FOX to actually cancel something good...

As far as Juno went, I think he was a bit underused, but it was still a good movie. I thought some of the dialog in the movie was over-written, but the story was pretty good and the movie had its moments.

Yea leave it to Fox to over hype the garbage shows and cancel the good ones.

If some of you guys remember Fox actually canceled Family Guy after I belive the first season but then eventually brought it back obviously.

I think it was the only show in the history of television to get cancled and then brought back,don't quote me on that but I belive it was the only time that has ever happened.

Agreed. Maybe Kevin Costner's best role outside of Dances With Wolves. Really creepy stuff.

No Country was fantastic. I've probably spent just as much time online reading up on theories and discussing the movie as I spent sitting in the theater watching it. That's certainly not for everyone, but I've enjoyed it. Lots of discussion to be had. I think it's got the inside track on best picture.

Juno was great. First of all, great to see Michael Cera back with Jason Bateman on set even though, IIRC, they did not have a scene together. Lots of talk about Cera here, who I love, but Ellen Page was just awesome. She succeeded in producing one-half of a more awkward relationship than Gosling and Epps in Half Nelson. I'm interested to see what she does in the future.

American Gangster was good, if not a little long. Denzel was solid as always, but I also liked Crowe, and outside of A Beautiful Mind I usually have not. It should be noted, though, that I am yet to see 3:10 To Yuma. I really want to see that sometime soon.

I'm also itching to see Once, which was mentioned earlier. I've heard that Hansard and Igrolovia (sp) really play off of each other well. I hope to rent it soon.

I also hope to rent The Lives of Others soon. Apparently, I'm told that I've seen it before, but it must have been after a night of drinking or something because I don't remember really watching it anymore. Clearly it deserves another look.

Still in the theaters (or recently out), I really want to see I'm Not There, Into The Wild, Eastern Promises, There Will Be Blood, The Assassination Of..., and I can't wait to see The Orphanage. Pan's was one of my favorite movies of last year, and I can't wait to see del Toro's follow up (though officially as producer and not director).

I've inevitably forgotten many. [Mandatory Half-Nelson plug]. ElDude, I need some movie recommendations. I'm counting on you.

I guess I should plug the Vince Vaughn Wild West Comedy Tour film. I saw it live in 2005. Some of the best comedy I have ever seen and the audience was involved almost throughout. Should be a great film if all the jokes/routines are included.

Haven't you heard they're in serious talks to make an Arrested Development movie, the only hindrance is the writer's strike.

Top movies of the year for me (in no order) were Eagle Vs. Shark (If you like Flight of the Conchords, you'll like this movie.) Juno (Some jokes were hit and miss, but good story, great cast, killer soundtrack) Superbad (anything with George Michael is stellar) No Country For Old Men (took a chance on it and it was surprisingly good) Knocked Up (good to see former cast of Freaks & Geeks make it onto the scene) Zodiac, Grindhouse, The King Of Kong: Fistful Of Quarters (great documentary)

Yet to watch: The Darjeeling Limited, American Gangster, Sweeney Todd, There Will Be Blood
