My vote would be for PJ Brown over Webber. We need defense, plus Brown's got that midrange. However he has said multiple times that he's retired. So I doubt that's happening.
I'd love to sign Kurt Thomas next off-season.
And Snaq makes a good point, in that we are potentially a contending team now. So that should entice a free agent like Webber. When we're playing at our best we can be the top team in the West. So, hopefully Bynum's recovery is full.
Mbenga looks a little too raw to make a huge difference. However as today's game showed, we just might need another big just for the sake of more fouls. If Ronny keeps playing defense as wildly as he does, there could be problems keeping a center in the lineup.
We definitely need a big body. At least next year we could have Marc Gasol. And maybe team will save the super glue for Kwame's hands and finally attach Chris Mihm's ankle.
Either way, I hope the article is right and we actually sign somebody for once. Because our bench doesn't have too many bigs on it anymore.

Hopefully PJ or Cwebb come. If cwebb picks another team, the lakers will try hard to bring PJ out of retirement but if he denied phoenix time after time, why would he choose here? I doubt it. I also doubt Cwebb will choose to play here.
Lakers best chances are with someone unknown. How about Charles oaklay, Antonio Davis, Larry Johnson or Samaki Walker??

In no way should we be trading Kwame for someone who hasnt played a game all season. Whether they are an upgrade or not does not matter as we need depth. Until Mihm comes back and shows his ankle is healthy he cant be counted on.
With the guaranteed minutes I could see Brown or Webber coming. Our system is slower than Phoenix, so that may make it a little more interesting for Brown. Webber would get the chance to make a huge contribution on this team. For some reason I get the feeling we will end up with Webber.

PJ Brown would be an excellent acquisition...but how much can the Lakers pay?
Didn't they use the MLE on Fisher? Or was it 4 million out of 5 million.
Is it wrong to assume Lakers only have like 1.2 million left to spend?
PJ Brown or Webber would be both be great pick ups because Lakers needed to add another bigman even before Bynum went down.
Bynum's injury came because he was playing wayy too many minutes. I am glad he will take off 2 months to be fresh for the playoffs.
By adding DJ Mbenga it would be the least/ and safest bet that mitch could make.
This guy could be picked up on the cheap...no one else will come.
Believe me, adding a cheap big like DJ Mbenga to play for half a season will not hurt the Dr.'s pockets....come on Mitch, make a move.
The Lakers definitely must add another big man who can actually catch the ball in the post and pass it out to Kobe.
Basically any big man will do...shotblocking and rebounding is also sorely needed.
Mitch PLEASE SIGN A BIGGG!!! And not anymore midget bigs like Odom and Turiaf.
Seeing Webber and Kobe would be amazing. On the offensive end the outside to inside to outside etc offense would flow like gravy....baby

Fisher, remembered, “We weren’t sitting around waiting for something to happen to become one of the best teams in the league. We set out to become that.”

Sorry to break it to you Turiaf lovers....
I love Turiaf and all of his heart and energy but he is not big enough to play C. He's a short PF, more of a SF height and length...his wingspan is not that long.
Definitely has a high energy motor and is a good contributor off the bench.
He's got a metal plate in his heart, he should not be playing extended minutes anyways.
Kwame is ok for the Lakers too...but he's also a bench player...Mitch please sign another Big.

[color=blue]Very nice post.
FYI, we only lock threads only if there's something wrong with them. Wrong meaning: it degrades the quality of discussion on this forum.
Since you bring it up in such a defensive manner, let me help you better understand why we do things the way we do. Having a thread locked doesn't mean that you're supposed to feel insulted or guilty or hurting in the kitty kat, or targeted by the mods or some other strangeness that might take place on other forums.
It's our task to keep the front page nice and neat, substabtial and interesting, and that way, we can help attract new, intelligent posters like yourself, and thus raise the quality of discussion. We're not against new threads, the other way around

When all those damn what if threads started popping up I knew somthing was gonna happen. Its obvious that kwame is a emotional players that gets affected by criticism, yet we continue everyday to add to this. I'm sure he or his family reads the internet and sees all the hate from his own team.
No doubt about the caron trade going bad, but the s*** already happend so move on. Kwame IF patient can play his game. He looks to be trying to do more than capapble in order to prove his worth to our fans which makes him worse.
If we can ADD to what we have we can survive 28 games. All of you calling for a large trade will be dissapointed if it backfires. Remember all the people who weren't patient with caron becase he didnt fit and lamar was our SF. Obviously people want immediate results and in the triangle that wont happen. Adding webber will be fine enough for now. We all know what he brings and he is a vet that is a team player.
With or without drew we will see that he was not the only player that enhanced his game over the summer. We still have farmar and fish AND A RESTED KB24. Superman will put on his cape when needed and IF AND ONLY IF we continue to focus on DEFENSE we will be fine while also adding webber (passer, IQ,size) only helps.

I'm not sure that Webber can still play PF effectively. He's lost a lot of his quickness, so he would be a liability playing PF.
Fisher/ Farmar/
Kobe/ Crittenton/ Karl
Luke/ Ariza/
Odom/ Turiaf/ Radmanovic
Kwame/ Chris Webber/
That's what I think the rotation will look like if we do get him.

I think this will be good for us. if we can stay at 500. whilst Bynum is out so go into the final month with a 41-26, who wouldn't of taken that at the start of the season? This way we have Bynum coming back just before playoff time and will be physically and mentally fresh come playoff time. If Kwame can just give us 10ppg and 10rpg then I see no problem with us staying at 500. especially if we add Webber.

I would start turiaf absolutely! I will say Kwame has a nice quick first step but he cant finish for shi! I am tired of it. I would still ship him out and get something for his expiring. We may have to wait for the trade deadline but if we sign Cwebb now He should be semi comfortable with the offense by that time. Our bigger problems comes on the dfense side. I would consider B wallace for Kwame and Radman. Maybe when Bynum comes back he could move over to the power forward position and be our Rodman. His contract does suck but it will be an expiring after next season that could be moved at that time.
