Memphis: Gets a great energy guy in Max and a number one overall pick in Bargnani to give a fresh start. The rest of those guys are just cap fillers.

Detroit: Gives up Tay, Max, and depth, but gets Pau to go along side sheed for a championship run.

Toronto: Bargs looks like he doesnt fit on that team and looks like he needs some time to get his game together. Memphis is the perfect place to do this because Toronto wants win now. With tay securing the perimeter defense, they can win now and be a much better team.

Add picks where needed.

Billups/Stuckey
Rip/Afflalo
Jarvis???/Herrmann
Pau/Dice/Amir
Sheed/?????????

How does this make Detroit better? We lose our starting SF, our 1st big off the bench and 3 expirings (including our playoff pitbull) for Pau Gasol? :nonono: I know fans are fond of "legit 7 fters" but damn.

I think this version works better for Detroit

MEM out: Gasol, Navarro
in: Bargnani, Maxiell, Hunter, Murray, Brezec

TOR out: Bargnani, Garbajosa
in: Prince

DET rotation:
Gasol/Dice
Sheed/Garbajosa
Afflalo/Hayes
Rip/Navarro
Billups/Stuckey

Like I have said many times before, "What team wants Hunter?" He is purely used for salary filler. Any team that acquires him will waive him so he can be Joes buddy again.

Essentially, we are just trading Tay+Max for Gasol; that is not bad value. We are losing our first big off the bench, but Gasol or Mcdyess would fill that role after this trade. Also, we are very limited financially so it would be hard to offer Max an extension at fair market value. If Amir got 3 years and 12 mill, how much is Max worth? At least the MLE...

This trade will also allow us to open up a few minutes per game for Amir as the fourth big/sf. He has the chance to have Shawn Marion type impact on the game.... Why waste his potential?

I thought about that too, but it seems Memphis really likes Navarro.

You are assuming an awful lot.

First, you are assuming that whatever team gets Hunter would just cut him for nothing. At the very least, he is an expiring contract. Just because you want to claim every team would just cut him, doesn't make it so.

Tay+Max for Gasol. That assumes that Gasol fits in somewhere with Dice and Sheed to actually make it worth it to give up our starting SF and young big. Max is a bruising big who has the strength to body inside against anyone. Gasol will post up more than Sheed and Dice no doubt, but what can he do that Max can't? shoot longer jumpers? actually touch the ball more on offense? not with Sheed, Dice, Rip and Chauncey with him.

If we move Tay, who becomes our starting SF? Arvis who only shows up when his minutes are up for grabs? Or 6'6" Afflalo? It's bad enough when Tay only shows up offensively for half the games.... now you want to take away the half he does show up for and take away his defense without any viable option right away?

Maxiell's extention. You assume Joe hasn't thought about this and knows what he is doing. Yes, Pistons are over the cap, and yet you want to trade away expirings for a player that would be our highest paid players making $14 million this year, $15 million next year, $16.5 million the year after, close to $18 million the year after that. How does that help our cap?

You assume that Amir is ready to be the fourth and final big in the rotation. You also assume that he could be a Shawn Marion impact type player.God I hope not, I want Amir to be better than Marion, but I know he's not even close to Marion yet. I love Amir as much as the next guy... I will go to bat for him getting more playing time every day of the week until he proves why he shouldn't be out there.

But I also understand that Dice is 33 yrs old and has a history of knee problems *knock on wood* he has been great in Detroit, but anything could happen. Sheed is 33 yrs old and has a history of serving suspensions, you take the bad with the good. Gasol has a history of injuries, and could miss any amout of time on a yearly basis. If any of these players go down are you sure Amir would be alright in 30+ minutes? I'm not. Hell, I'm getting flack for asking for 10mpg for the kid.

Pau Gasol is a fine player. But he's not worth his contract and he is certainly not good enough for us to gut our team to claim we have a legit 7 fter.

I'd suggest that the Raptors would be better off cutting out the Pistons entirely and trading for Gasol instead of Prince. They might have to come up with some value to make up for Maxiell, but they could even work it so that the Grizzlies didn't have to take back 6 players (including a bunch they don't really want) for Gasol alone. That's if the Grizzlies truly want to trade Pau, though.
