2nd ROUND MATCHUP JUDGING -- Detroit v. Washington
I would be interested in seeing how Washington's starting lineup works out but gimmick lineups rarely work out over a long stretch though they can be quite effective in the short term. I think this change weakened Washington's chances though as a Wizard lifer I like seeing someone try to reorganize their team to get Haywood MORE minutes.
Inside play: Camby, Garnett and Bogut/Foster v. Haywood, the Wallace boys and Diaw. No way to see this as anything but a big edge for Kevin Garnett and Detroit.
Wing and point scoring: Martin is a nice scorer, Barbosa is explosive off the bench, but Miller and Felton aren't going to do that much and Jamal Crawford get points as a low percentage gunner; he wouldn't start for Washington and shouldn't even for Isiah. That said, LeBron is easily the dominant player here and Gerard Wallace, Ginobili and Bibby are a match for Detroit's starters even without him. Edge Wash.
Playmaking: Garnett is a great passing big, but LeBron is even better. And Washington has an edge elsewhere as Detroit otherwise has mainly shooters. Edge Washington
Rebounding: Here Garnett has the edge on LeBron and Detroit's surrounding cast the edge on Washington's. Haywood plays D but he isn't much of a defensive rebounder. Edge Detroit
Defense: Here is where the gimmick lineup could hurt Washington. But Detroit already had the edge here with Garnett and Camby patrolling the lanes. Edge Detroit.
Intangibles: LeBron last year did more than Garnett has ever managed getting his team to the finals. Manu has been a part of multiple championships and Washington has homecourt in an extra game too. edge Washington.
Overall: Garnett and Camby are going to dominate inside. LeBron and Manu can win this by getting and staying hot from outside but that is much harder to do. I believe Detroit will win this.

1. As U-Borat pointed out, I have great outside shooters to break the zone.
2. Your man-to-man defense is weaker than mine and is not going to suffocate my offense.
3. Prince may even shut down Bowen completely, yet it won't do much damage to my overall offense anyway.

U-Borat wrote:Hey guys, I'm finding these arguments interesting.
And don't think I'm being biased, I'll argue anyone who posts. lol.
MYTH:
Ricky Davis. Note; has he played for a winning/playoff team? Of course, that's not his fault, but it stands. He disrupts/stagnates ball offences with shot-jacking, and pretty much defines the idea of a 'cancer'. And I'm mentioning this because you heavily implied that the gap between your backup and his starter wasn't much...when it quite obviously is.
Much... quite much.. not so much... I won't argue about this single word anymore since this isn't going to change overall picture of our matchup at all.
Bynum; wow, you know I'm a Lakers fan...but its quite blatantly obvious that he thrives off Kobe's double-teams. He is a great finisher around the rim...but that does not equal a great post game. e Your example sucks.
And now he will be thriving off Duncan's double teams. You suck.
Bynum is nowhere near the physical beast that Shaq is...
Where I said he is? On the other hand, also D. West<prime Rasheed.
while West doesn't live on the perimeter, and has an excellent slashing game.
And it would be better for Yao's Knicks' offensive spacing if he lived more on the perimeter, so in fact you're giving argument against NYK here.
Point duly noted about PF/C combo, though I still believe West/Yao would outscore Duncan/Bynum, albeit with less efficiency.
Have you wtached Hinrich play this season? He's defensively quite average now..a far cry from the All-nba defender from years gone past. I'm nto sure why either...he hypothetically should be in his prime. Chicago give up 3 points less when he's on the bench, and his opponent PER/eFG are both above average.
The whole Bulls team sucks this season, when their lack of post scoring and poor coaching got better of them, yet it would be to naive to judge Chicago players only of basis of current season. Hinrich proved enough what is worth both in offense and defense to conclude that in a team better and stronger than even the best Bulls squads of his he will be more efficient than ever before - especially as he will be relieved of unpleasant duty of guarding bigger SGs every night and will be able to focus on other PGs.
and re: your passing argument. whose going to draw double teams on the perimeter and give easy feeds to bynum here?
Of course Josh Howard, current MVP of Dallas Mavericks.
Point noted about roy's playmaking. however, bowen on parker isn't going to work based on your example; parker has far more lateral speed and penetrating ability than chauncey will...who is more of a post-up guard.
Keep the arguments going!
Parker is quicker than Billups (though Bowen has excellent vertical speed himself), but on the other hand is much weaker and more prone to Bowen's physical defense. BB also knows his game perfectly from their trainings together and it's going to help.

I watch Crawford get 8asts and Felton 9 and they are bad passers/no playmaking. Im not sure Nash/Magic/Stockton could avg 8asts for the Knicks.
When I drafted Felton he was 6th in the NBA in assts and is currently 10th.
Miller 16.5ppg 44%3pt "Wont do much"
Kevin Martin 25ppg 5th in NBA 48% FG
and hes an afterthought/nobody???
Kevin Martin is putting up prime Mitch Richmond/Earl Monroe stats. Honestly the differance between Wade and Martin is almost nothing when you look at the yr they are having. If anything Martin might be the better player this yr.
I realise all 3 (Felton, Miller, Martin) play in Siberia and they arent on TV but these young players are all having very good yrs and are not rookies anymore.
Myth
This is a league/draft based on 07-08 season. You cant take an 06 Hienrich anymore than I can a 72 Wilt, 85 Bird or 91 MJ. Hienrich is having a bad yr. Just like signing a FA that has a bad yr or tradeing for a player past his prime you have to play with who you have not with who he used to be.

Philly vs. Knicks
It's going to be a hell of a matchup downlow, probably the 2 best posts in the game. I'd say the Sixers have the advantage because of Duncan's experience, and Bynum is better than West. The Sixers have a bunch of #2 scoring options, but no true #1. The Knicks, on the other hand, have 2 guys in Roy in Parker who are very close to being #1 options. Prince and Battier are great glue guys, and play very solid defense. Duncan will keep it close, but the Knicks have a much better team overall.
Knicks in 7.
Pistons vs. Wizards
The Wizards will get absolutely killed inside, take away KG and the posts are even. That's how bad the Wiz match up insde against the Pistons. I don't see anyone, however, on the Pistons that can stop Lebron and/or match his offensive production. Bibby and Ginobili are as good as the Pistons #1 options, and with Lebron on the floor, Bibby and Manu will be shooting all day. One team will dominate inside, one team will dominate outside. Lebron will take over this series, especially because the Wiz have homecourt.
Wiz in 7.
West
Rockets vs. Sonics
Very interesting matchup. Looking inside first, I see 2 very solid posts. None of them are amazing defenders, JO is probably the best of all 4 starters. I think he can contain Brand, and Gasol should be able to score on Z. Both teams have very good go-to guys, Wade gets the advantage because of his ability to take over games. The only advantage the Sonics have is at PG, but that's pretty much it. The Rockets hvae a better bench, also.
Rockets in 5.
Hornets vs. Lakers
Kobe vs. Dirk. I don't see anyone on the Hornets who will be able to stay with Dirk, and Chandler will get rebounds and play defense to contain the Hornets' post. The Hornets don't have a superstar down low, but they do have offense, defense, and rebounding. The mismatch comes on the perimeter, however. Artest can slow down Kobe, but Kobe still can take over a game. Billups is a great vet leader, and Nocioni is a solid glue guy. The Lakers do have a solid bench, but that is needed with the young guys in their backcourt. Kobe can play almost all of the game, however.

This isn't even my series but honestly, since WHEN WASN'T DUNCAN A #1 OPTION?!?!?!?! ESPECIALLY in the playoffs?!?!
Exactly. Also Howard is just as good potential 1st option as TP and - at least for now - better than Roy.

Penbeast, there was no set role for Randolph, the idea would be to see how he handles Dirk, and if Dirk is just getting off on him, it's easy to put guys like Posey, Nocioni, and Millsap on him, and bring the double from his blindside. GS style

He's a good scoring option, but I was talking more about the perimeter offense. And besides, in the finals, I know Parker was the #1 option, not TD.U-Borat wrote:-= original quote snipped =-

OK, I should have been more specific. I'm not saying that TD isn't a great scoring option, but I'm talking more about the Sixers' perimeter. IMO, Parker and Roy are better scoring options than Howard. That's all.U-Borat wrote:^^Wow. That's all I can really say...
And in the finals, if you watched them, you would know that Parker was the guy who killed the Cavs, not TD.

OK timeout, as a spectator I have to step in. TD is a legit #1 option, and one of the best bigs in the league. Duncan (not incl. this current season) has averaged over 20PPG every season except for 05-06, where he averaged close to 19. He's led his team in scoring every year of his career without David Robinson (although he was always close to Robinson) so far (not incl. this current season). He's averaging close to 24PPG over his playoff career, which is more than both TP or Manu. Stats aside, plz, watch the Spurs closer than you currently are. TP and Manu might get their points, but the entire offensive orientation revolves around TD. He gets plenty of touches, and is the pillar which upholds the offense. I'm not arguing your judging, but your point about Duncan not being a legit #1 option couldn't be further from the truth.
And the only reason TP appeared to be a number option was because he was getting easy baskets, mostly because of Tim Duncan's work inside. Parker's game revolves around using his quickness to get to the rim and finish with a lay up, but the only way he can get to the rim is if the lane is clear. Duncan keeps the offense running, and the team has become what it is today in major part to him.

And my question was, if you are putting Posey or Nocioni on Dirk, that means Randolph is guarding a wing player or is he being benched . . . important difference there.

Ah, my mistake, it would be Randolph coming off the bench.
Edit: Randolph starting, and getting pulled if Dirk starts heating up....

I know a Michigan guy with the Pistons playing a team with LBJ isnt going to get a fair shot from a ohio resident with LBJ in his name/sig but....
Bibby(who isnt even starting if you read the thread) and Manu better than Martin and Felton?? LBJ playing PG and the teams best rebounder to take over and dominate?? Is he selling concessions before the game, singing the national anthem and performing at halftime as well?? So we have LBJ outscoring Martin(25ppg), outrebounding Camby (14rebpg) and out ast Felton(7apg). Might as well rename him Oscar Robertson... Oh wait Ill bet you think LBJ is a better player.
Quick question
LBJ and his highschool mates vs 92 dream team. Can the dream team win a game or will they be swept in 4??
Just what I thought....
Theres a solid case to be made for either team and alot of info given by both GMs who took alot time and effort. if you dont even take 5mins to read the thread and instead pick teams based on how many players from your fav team (Cavs) are on the rosters disgusts me. Adding on that you dont think Tim Duncan is a 1st option quite frankly leaves me speechless... I understand that the Cavs havent had a legit inside player in almost 20yrs (so you dont believe in there validity nor understand that type of play) but that doesnt mean none of the other teams do or should.
