OT: Don Sterling (Wiretap)

Post#1 » by Garbs_7 » Tue Jan 22, 2008 9:46 am

As per the wiretap, man this guy (Clippers owner) just said some things that I could only dream of Kohl saying...

"That's why I'm paying [Dunleavy] the money I am," he said. "I want to see him win. I don't want to tell him how to do it. I'm just interested in the conclusion. My whole philosophy is hire the best people and let them do their jobs.

"There is no alternative, you have to rely on them, and if it doesn't work out, either you're patient or make changes, right?"

That one line about hiring the best people and letting them do their jobs is exactly what we have been talking about with the whole Kohl/Harris saga. I dream of the day Kohl comes out with something like this. Even without Brand, they still arent content with losing and want to make changes and do what they can to win.

I know the Clips have been terrible the last couple decades, but im guessing that is more the GM/Coach's fault then the owners, unless he is a cheap owner, which i do not know a whole lot about Sterling.

Apologies if this isnt new topic worthy, just wanted to share with how frustrating this was to see an owner put some pressure on and not meddle in GM duties.

Id take Kohl over Sterling anyday. Atleast Kohl cares whether we win or not, not that it shows in the box score.

He put $0 into this team for 2 decades and let them flounder in an outdated arena then instead of investing into a new place he lets them "rent" the Staples Center on Laker off nights.

He was the single biggest absentee owner in NBA history until just recently. Maybe in the last 3-5 years he's finally committed money to building this team into a winner. The Elton Brand signing started it. So yeah he's gotten better, but the team hasnt. Id rather be us then them right now.

LA had the Lakers so no one really gave a damn, and the Clips were a fun distraction when the Lakeshow was on the road. If this team were the lone team in any city that cared whatsoever, it would have folded or relocated.

There was a reason they were in the lottery every year for like 15 years, and why everytime they got lucky with a lottery pick that player was gone within 3 years.

The on-court results of the Clippers and the Bucks are pretty similar unfortunately.....

Sterling meddles like crazy and then makes pronouncements that it is on the employees to do their job.....I think Kohl is the same way.

The only difference between the two is that Kohl is massively interested in his team and spends as much money as he can afford to make attempts to get better. Sterling does no such thing. So Kohl 1: Sterling 0

Sterling has always been considered one of the worst owners in any sport. It's time for Kohl to move on but I would never want anyone like Sterling.
