OT: Kidd Wants To Be Traded (Update)
I think this is going to be very interesting. The Bucks have no shot because he wants to be traded to a contender. However, maybe they could be the third team in a 3-team deal. They do have a potential replacement for Kidd at PG in Mo who the Nets might want. So it's worth a shot in my opinion.
More interesting to me is what the Nets will get back. The last two big name players who were moved (Iverson and Garnett) were dealt in horrible trades in my opinion and neither the Sixers nor the T'Wolves got closer to quality value in return. In fact, Philly's GM lost his job. So there's a lot of pressure on Rod Thorn to not follow suit and ensure the Nets get quality value back for Kidd.
This could also be the start of a major rebuilding effort in New Jersey. If that becomes the case, I'd see if they had any interest in dealing Jefferson.

I'd look at something involving Odom to us, Kidd to Lakers, Mo and Villanueva to the Nets. Don't know how we could make it work though. I really don't want to give up Bogut/Yi or our pick this year.
Draft a pass first defender at PG (Collison would be there for us) in the draft and bring up Sessions.
Collison/Bell/Sessions
Redd/Mason
Odom/Simmons
Yi/
Bogut/Gadzuric

Neither do I. As much as I'd like to trade for Odom, I don't see it happening. I can't see Kohl taking on his contract. I still think the Bucks/Mavs/Nets make for good trading partners if the Mavs decide they want Kidd. Each has some things the other teams could want.
The Cavs would seem to be the most likely destination for Kidd but they'd absolutely need a third team to enter the mix because they have zip. The Lakers have Odom and Kwame's expiring deal and a young player like Farmar. I could see the Nets and Lakers talking again.
Nothing will not break me.

I don't think they are looking to rebuild, but add better scoring depth around their Big 3. There aren't a lot of contenders who can afford Kidd's salary or make it work in trade. But, Jersey could really use Mo Williams and Charlie Villanueva.
Williams/Villanueva/Gadzuric/Storey
For
Sean Williams/Wright/Collins/Maglorie
Magloire expires this year, Collins next. That's $10+ mil off the books in 2009. Sean Williams is young defensive/rebounding stud. Our front line would be set for years. Wright is a decent young small forward.
New Jersey really needs a combo guard who can score off the bench, and an inside scoring athletic power forward.

That's not enough return for Mo and CV. Wright is ok, is he really any better than Simmons or Mason? I like Sean Williams, but we wouldn't have any cap room regardless with Redd/Simmons/Gadzuric's deals still burdening us.
I'd pass on this one.

I can honestly not think of one player on the Cavs outside of LBJ that I would want. The rest are either old, overpaid, or just not very good. I can't even fathom a trade with them because I don't know what pieces would be going out.

Wright is younger than both, and provides at least some depth. We got nothing now.
The cap room is so that we can resign our own good players, as well as remaining flexable for any trade in which we have to take on more salary then is outgoing.
Really? Not enough for Williams and CV. What is enough? What if we got their 2008 1st round pick?

I agree. I don't want Gooden; Gibson is a nice player but guys like that are easy to find. There's really nothing else. That's why the Cavs are stuck. They badly need a strong SG (Redd would be ideal) and they badly need an upgrade at PG (Kidd would be ideal) but they have nothing of value to offer. They have to get a third team involved if they're going to make any kind of major trade. It certainly speaks to the value of having LeBron that they can do so well with so little, but it doesn't help them in terms of making strong moves via the trade route.
Unless they can find a team that isn't looking for any value at all. Hold on, I think Isiah just called them.

The Cavs are really a poorly run organization. They got lucky on landing LeBron, and he's that good that he can carry them in a terrible East. But really, the rest of their team is so uninspiring, and they don't have any cap room until 2010/11. Thank god for the contracts of Hughes, Big Z, Gooden, Snow, among others.
Back to the original topic, I would love to get in on a 3 way deal here, just hard to find the pieces.

I will throw up a trade I suggested a few months ago that some people seemed to like.......
Dallas gets Kidd
Bucks get Devin Harris and Brandon Bass
NJ gets Mo and CV
There may be a thing or 2 added, draft choice possible....Dallas would probably give away theres.....but that is the nuts and bolts of it.

sign me up...I've been wondering lately if dallas would do the unthinkable and look to add shaq "as their final piece of the puzzle"...I know he's old, but perhaps cuban thinks he could get them over the hill. Play him minimally in the season and save him for the playoffs...just a random thought

If we also got Dallas' first this year, I might do that one.

I would absolutely love that trade. Harris is a nice big athletic pg that can defend. Meanwhile Mo and CV are two nice pieces for the nets to restructure their team, and dallas gets kidd for their title run.
Also, its great that harris is locked up to his long term deal, so hopefully this new backcourt fits better than mo/redd.
Looking at things with the draft pick, hopefully the bucks can land an athletic three in the offseason.
Harris/Bell
Redd/Mason
Athletic Three/Simmons
Yi/Bass
Bogut/Gadz

In that scenario, if we got Harris I'd go Donte Greene or Tyler Smith at SF.

I'd do this deal... Except I'd start Bass or Ruffin next to Bogut while Yi develops. I'd also like to see if we could get Trenton Hassell back somehow.
I think a line-up of Harris - Redd - Hassell - Bass/Ruffin - Bogut could be a whole lot better defensively than what we have now. It also gives us a half court/defensive style and puts the type of pieces around Redd he always should have had... Our team starts to look a lot more like the Reggie Miller Pacers.
This also allows development from Yi coming off of the bench since he would be the main scoring option in a Ivey - Bell - Mason - Simmons - Yi - Ruffin - Gadzuric filled bench.
Next year then we either draft a big, bruising, defensive minded PF or a defensive minded 3 who can hopefully play some point forward as well. (Tyler Smith) We'd also have to find another scorer off of the bench... But I really like that deal if we can get Trenton Hassell.

I like the hassel idea too. I'd be open to dealing mason, just so we don't have too much of a logjam of "ok" small forwards wanting playing time.
But I'd love the idea of having some tough defenders like harris, hassel, and ruffin on the floor so redd can be redd, and bogut can finally have some help defending. Although I'd still want Yi starting, but as long as he gets minutes its not much of a concern whether he starts or comes off the bench.
Someone should email this to harris
