More to the point, why the hell would Nelson want to sign him?
Because the Warriors have a thin bench and could use a veteran player.
For the vet min, there is little downside to this move from the Warriors perspective.
If he doesn't work out, then he doesn't work out. Big deal.

Always been amazing to me that NBA teams think has beens are the answer.
A bit extreme...no?
And the Warriors already give plenty of roster spots to players from the D-League. Hell, half our bench is from the D-League.

The Warriors with ANY kind of rebounding/scoring big man is a contender. I don't give a **** what ANYONE thinks.
Look at the Jazz against us last season in the playoffs. Even though they outrebounded us by like 30 rebounds a game, the games were still decided by less than 5-10 points. All WINNABLE games and if we had any sort of big man we would have won that series. And even in Game 2 of that series, we got outrebounded by 28 rebounds and the only reason we lost is because Mickael Pietrus missed 1 free throw that would have made it a 3 possession game for the Jazz to catch up and win with only 55 seconds left to go in the game.
It's just that people think we're a fluke and don't notice how capable we are of beating teams in the playoffs. Only teams I really think we have trouble with are the Spurs and maybe the Hornets too.

Detroit, Boston, Lakers (dark horse) would be superior fits for Webber.
It will be interesting to watch, though.
I think Webber will join the team thinking that we aren't a contender anyways. And Nellie already stated that our goal is just to get to the WCF. Anything more is bonus.

We already have Kelenna Azubuike from the D-League.
And for big men, we already have Patrick O'Bryant and Brandan Wright. Two lottery picks. One doesn't get minutes because he doesn't play with enough heart (although he does have a lot of potential and talent), and the other isn't playing because he's not "ready" yet. And we have Austin Croshere and this one international guy we picked up in the 2nd round.
I guess this Chris Webber signing is just a "fun" move.
EDIT: The signing isn't even official yet. He might not even end up joining the team. All the talk is just hype right now. My bad, I got too carried away thinking that he's already on the team.

For those expecting rebounding or post play from Webber I think you may be dissappointed. I think he's really more of a high-post guy who likes to pass the ball, shoot 15-footers at 40% and cut for back-door layups from time to time.
Saying that, that could be ideal for the Lakers in the triangle. For anyone else, except maybe San Antonio... I don't think it's really enough to warrant a roster spot at PF or C.

This is a pretty good pickup if Webber is in shape they dont need him to run on fast breaks they need him when the game slows down. The dude can still pass out the post with the best of them and with the way Monta and Baron could cut they will have easier baskets. Any post addition to the Warriors is a plus.

I guess it's a "done deal" of Webber coming back to GS.

Webber and the Warriors will do well as long as he's a backup center playing 10-20 minutes a game. If he starts gunning early shot clock looks and doesn't rebound he'll be sitting on the bench.
I think he'll accept a roll as a high post passer/screen setter and late shot clock 15-20 foot jump shooter on offense plus he'll rebound better than POB, Kosta, Wright or Croshere.
Defensively I want him to have the mind set of spending all 6 fouls. Hopefully he'll hustle in defensive transition enough to keep up with opposing centers and provide some toughness in the defensive post.
I wouldn't expect him to play much PF alongside Biedrins, Nellie wants 4 players that stretch the court to the 3 point line at all times (Monta is given a pass because he's the pace setter with that lightning like speed). Webber and Harrington together will probably be seen more than Webber/Biedrins.
As far as his old legs and lack of speed is concerned I'm not worried about it as long as he plays center. He'll actually do well with outlet passes and dribbling the ball up court 1 or 2 dribbles to find a guard/forward to pass the ball to. He doesn't have to run past every one on the court and finish he just has to get the attack momentum started in the backcourt after he rebounds the ball. The Warriors guards and forwards will take over from there.

I don't see how Chris Webber can be worse than Adonal Foyle and DJ Mbenga. If anything, he'll make Andris Biedrins, Austin Croshere, Al Harrington and the rest of the Warriors "big men" somewhat better because of his passing and post presence. Like what NetsForce said earlier, it's a low risk high reward type of signing.
