Delonte West?

Post#1 » by berserker » Wed Jan 30, 2008 8:49 pm

How about we get rid of JR for Delonte West? 6'4, above average defender....allows AI to play D against the point guards. JR isn't getting much time anyways, and although I like his talent, he's still a head case. Delonte may be a better fit for us, since AI is better at the two....but we also need a bigger guard at the one as AI is suspect defending the bigger two guards.

Plus, there's been rumblings he's not happy in Seattle....they have lots of PG's....

What do you all think? I like this idea a lot....

Who would we give? Would the Sonics unload Delonte West for JR?

I think they would......JR would give them a solid role player off the bench behind Durant, and they still have Watson/Ridnour/Jeff Green at the PG position. They need a better backup at the two, and we need a bigger PG at the one.

Fair trade, if you ask me. Two young players with ton's of potential, but neither has broken through just yet......

and the salaries match. We can then KEEP our first rounder and draft a decent two guard to sit behind AI.

I like this lineup: West/AI/Melo/Kenyon/Camby, bench is AC/Kleiza/Diawara/Nene - Najera/Hunter. The bench is a concern, but we could also trade for JJ Redick or another shooter to come off the bench. Not sure his trade value is so great right now, perhaps we could get him for a second?

Watson/Ridnour/Jeff Green

green's a SF/PF.

.

i'm a big jr fan...but i'd do the above trade because i've pretty much come to terms with him never fulfilling anything here under the karl regime. and west gives us the right type/style player we need from the pg position.

You sure about that, Corona? Maybe I'm mistaken, but wasn't he the PG that came out of Georgetown? The number 5 pick?

Durant is the SG/SF.....I'm pretty sure Green was PG/SG.

I could be wrong. But either way, Seattle has quite a few PG's, and delonte's not getting any playing time. I agree JR is a better player, but perhaps Delonte would be a better FIT

NOTE:

Corona, you're right. My bad.

Jeff Green is 6'9, 235, starts for seattle at PF.

maybe you're thinking of taurean green, who was selected in the 2nd round by portland...out of florida?

Well I know they wanted to unload Watson or Ridnour earlier in the season. Delonte does fit over here with the defensive sets we run, so it could be effective. He's also a tall PG to play alongside Iverson.

I can't believe I actually beat corona to the punch when it came to correcting my error.....LOL.......corona is usually too fast!

Yeah, he would fit in here. So would Jarrett Jack, but I doubt he'd come back after we traded him......

Green's playing the 3. If the Sonics were smart they'd be giving him time at the 4 too.

There's a thread on this on the trades board. I'm not sold on West.

But regardless I don't think the Sonics are going to take on a guy with Smith's (real or perceived) character issues. They're trying to create a Spurs-type organization in many senses, including building a team of "good character" players.

Quick point, West is a free agent at the end of the season, if he walks we may leave with nothing. Was he given an extension yet? I don't think so. I guess we can always match if it isn't too bad.

Yes get West, he's still young and a Jr swap would be good.

Basically any pg over 6'3 that can fire a 3 and play above average defence is the perfect fit. If we do get him, i wonder if karl would still start ac?

Read about this this morning on wiretap, sounds like is unhappy in SEA, and I think the article said he has only played in one of the past nine games. Seems like they would be willing to trade him if he's not fitting in there.

Just a thought, but what do you guys think of a trade like this...

Najera, Jr and first to Sea for West and KT.

There's no reason not to at least take a look, he's pretty damn good fit next to AI.

I still love JR, probably more than most people here but as Corona said, it's never gonna work as long as Karl is here.

I like west's game a lot and would probably pull the trigger on JR for west, though I'm pretty sure west is making a few million more/yr. I wouldn't do JR/Najera for west/thomas. Najera is too versatile to give up in that kind of trade, imo. without him we have nobody cutting to the basket, and he has been our most consistent 3pt shooter all year for the most part. at the very least he doesn't have any games where he is like 0 for 5. maybe a Jr+2nd round pick for west?

Wiretap mentions that Delonte West assumed he was going to be sent down. Apparently he doesn't know the rule that D-league players can only be first or second year NBA contract players.

Is JR going to be a RFA or FA?

If he is a FA, trade West for JR, then come this off season the FO should fire Karl (an off season too late if you ask me), then bring JR back. With Karl gone he might be willing to return, since he supposedly wants to stay in Denver.

Win/win, lol.

I think JR is a restricted FA.
