One other thing....
Marion has shrunk each time the Suns were eliminated

Kobe knocking Shaq into retirement - Priceless.

Thats quite the assumption. And didn't Shaq go on to win a title without Kobe? Has kobe won one without Shaq?

Marion was leaving after this season and that was obvious, Shaqs contract may be huge but they also send back Banks contract, Shaqs popularity and vevenue intake will make his contract worth i because hes still one of the most popular icons in all of sports. Everyone has been sying that the Suns cant win in the playoffs with the style of play they have so they changed it while putting them in a position to win now with two big time players in the post and a 2 time MVP getting them the ball. Shaq is also still one of the best passers in the game especially for a Center and will still comand a double team because of hs size. They have two years to make this work and if it doesnt it will put them in position that gives the cp flexibility, trading all of those picks was very foolish though, im sure they would love to have Fernandez and Jones posting at the three for Shaq to dish it out to them.

Bell is shooting 38% from downtown
Hill is shooting 35%
Marion is shooting 34%

Bell was also the guy that guarded the perimiter players like Kobe, Mello and he will contine to do so, they are going to have to rely on Amare now to stick on Dirk and guys of his calibur, wouldnt that be funny if they end up playing the Warriors and end up getting beat because the Warriors were to quick? The West is exciting.

Riley proved once again hes a royal dou3he.

Riley the Rat!!
sound like a supervillain
Go Knicks!

Shaq will open a lot of things up in the half court and start a lot of fast breaks with just his presence.

I'm almost afraid to see what happens next. I'm shell-shocked. This is the year of the Bizarro trade.

God, what next?

-Paul for Dooling! Howard gets a good point guard!
-Caron Butler for Jarron Collins and Matt Harpring! Jazz get a big body to play the 2!
-David Stern trades the Knicks for the Giants!

Okay, maybe the last one would be good, but still!

There aren't 5 man fast breaks.

They don't run every damn time.

THANK YOU!!

Even the Suns have to slow it down from time to time, and Shaq gives them a legit chance to win even if they have to slow down. Plus he gives them a big C who can man up to Duncan and Yao.

I don't see Shaq fitting in with the running and gunning style of the Suns.

I think the Suns main problem on D is, while they may have a big to guard TD, Yao etc they've lost the guy that guards Parker, Dirk, McGrady etc. Those are the guys at the end of the game that can create their own shots.

Hill and Diaw have to do that now. To your point I don't see them getting better defensively.
But if Shaq can give the Suns what he gave the Heat 2 years ago ... lookout.

My theory behind the Shaq deal

Post#473 » by Russ369 » Wed Feb 6, 2008 3:27 pm

Besides the obvious, considering how cheap the PHX owner was, Shaq's 20 mill with 2 yrs left is great for ownership... They saved money from having to resigning Marion and getting rid of Marcus Banks' insane contract... Its a win win... Cuz chances are Marion would of walked because they didnt wanna resign him... Now in 2 years after this season, they get 20mill in cap and that sets them up pretty well...

I like this deal for both teams... Shaq is what they might need to get over the top.

Sometimes people take trades at face value.

We kept hearing every year how Marion didn't like being in Phx. Didn't feel appreciated. Phx was going to lose him after this year for nothing.

I think Riley was getting tired of Shaq's laziness/injuries/whatever and wanted to get rid of him. That's why he was pumping Shaq's value and said he should be on the All Star team. Everyone knows Shaq is no where All Star level.

It's a trade that benefits both teams not necessarily for what happens on the court but because they trade headaches.

Phx gets Shaq for 40 mill the next two years which sucks but maybe he comes around in a new enviornment.

Miami gets a decent 3pt shooter and finisher to compliment Wade but he is a FA after this year. So they are either going to have to give him a max contract or lose him for nothing. It's actually a win win for Miami; they either get Marion or they get a ton of cap room. Plus with a top draft pick the Heat actually could turn it around quickly. I think this is even more of a steal than what Kupchak did because I thought Shaq was UNTRADEABLE.

That is an amazing feat that Riley pulled off......

They certainly filled their biggest hole. It just remains to be seen how much losing Marion will effect their fast break. Personally I think they will be fine. Shaq isn't going to play more than 30 minutes. They can run with him as the outlet passer and they can certainly run without him using Amare and Diaw at the 4 & 5. He is basically a high priced role player. He fills exactly the role they needed.

Great trade by the suns! Even if shaq is in decline, I have no doubt nash will turn back the clock on shaq. Plus, it's addition by subtraction by getting rid of that cancer marion. He was killing team chemistry with his selfish ways. Marion gone = great for the suns! 8)

Who said the Heat will get a top draft pick? With Marion they might make the playoffs in the East.
