5 guys dont run a fast break. Thats how that will work.
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

That's a pretty good Big three.

So you think that Miami will continue to tank even with Marion?

What no one has really discussed here is that Shaq is still going to be out another 2-3 weeks with that hip injury, The Suns line-up until then will be nash/bell/hill/boris/Amare, that team may actually DROP in the standings until then as well. Then when Shaq is ready to go they'll have to incorporate him into how they do things while also changing things to accommodate him as well. If anything the Suns will NEED HCA In the playoffs against teams such as the Lakers, Spurs, Utah, Golden State, Dallas etc. I just really don't know how this will all bode well for the Suns.

Shaq might of had the luckiest career ever to match his amazing talent.... leaving the worst team in the league for the best team in the West.

Bingo.

All they need Shaq to do is initiate the fast break - get rebounds and outlet to Nash, Barbosa, etc. Which he can do.

What Shaq gives them, though, is a legitimate chance to compete in the half court as well. Shaq, with Amare also down low, Nash distributing, and a bunch of 3pt shooters on the wing, will be a force to be reckoned with IMO. Plus on the defensive end, they get a big body who can match up with Duncan, Yao, Bynum/Gasol, etc.

I like it for PHX...they just got a lot scarier, mark my words.

do or die trade for Phonix, i hope shaq steps it up .

on the surface it helps both teams,Suns chances of championship was very low with thier roster, motivated diesel even @70% may push them over the top.

can oneal be a roll player in a uptempo game we will see.

Laker fan here hoping to see Laker-Suns western conf.finals

I think some teams might beg to differ. Like the teams with some post-season success. We've seen what having the best record means in terms of playoff success. It means: jack

I was only referring to the record. I don't think the Suns are really the best team in the west either.

Apparently the trade was accepted 22 minutes ago according to Danny Dabiri. First post updated.

The only way this makes any sense at all is if Phoenix plans to abandon their run and gun offense.

As a Suns fan I'm not really worried about it offensively. In the regular season Marion got a lot more easy fastbreak points than he did in the postseason, because teams get back better. With Amare's jump shot being very good this season (47.1% on jump shots according to 82games.com), as well as his ability to finish down the lane, Amare's defender is not going to be able to double Shaq. Nor will those guarding Bell, Barbosa, or Nash because they'll knock down threes.

And rebounding wise the Suns will improve, period. I've watched this team enough to know that whenever Amare plays PF, they're a pretty decent rebounding team. Marion never boxed out and just went after loose balls, so other teams would get a lot of putbacks. Also, I expect Shaq to be able to get more offensive rebounds than Marion can.

Defensively is where it is going to be a problem. I know the Suns will be improved at defensive rebounding, Shaq's big body will help to keep those crashing off the boards. But there's really only one good perimeter defender in Bell now. Nash is bad, Barbosa is below average (although he's better than a couple years ago), and Hill can't really guard quick players. Strawberry can really, really defend but I don't know how much time he will get unless his shot improves.

I can really see Sam being bought out and coming here to play backup point now. Wow would the Suns be old as hell.

How? You don't run the break with 5 guys. All Shaq has to do is rebound and outlet to get the break going.

duh, if he posted this in the other thread theres a chance no one would respond. Making a new thread ensures that at least someone will read what you have to say.

You haven't watched Shaq play lately have you? The guy has become a terrible rebounder. If the ball isn't directly landing in that guys lap, he isn't going for it, its why I think its funny when people say the suns offensive/defensive rebounding will improve.

Phoenix won't stop breaking, but there will be more half court possession, and they will be longer (a lot less of a "get a shot off in the first 7 seconds of the shot clock" nonsense.) Expect less possession, less shots, more efficiency. Is this abandoning run and gun, even if they still stay in something like the top 8 in the league in fast break points? I guess that's semantics.
