to reiterate, any GM who did the deal as you proposed it (iguodala/smith for blatche/young) from the sixers standpoint would be laughed out of the league the next day. in fact, that trade is horrible before you even mention jason smith's name. that's an utterly, utterly ridiculous trade and you know it.
of course, gasol just got traded for kwame brown, so you never know.
but seriously, give iguodala a break for once, jesus christ.

SendEm... I appreciate what you're saying about how fans post "homer" trades that have no chance. I get that and see that on the trade board all the time (IggytheBEaST has gotten a lot better). But the deal you brought up just isn't enough for the Sixers so don't sell the team short and tilt it too much to the Wizards side. Either way, we're getting awfully fantastical here.

Which backcourt do you like more?
Miller & Iguodala or Miller & Nick Young???
1. It's impossible to get Okafor who is a restricted free agent and on a team that is fully capable of paying him the max without being a luxury tax team.
2. Okafor will probably make $13 million per season average.
3. Okafor plays defense and rebounds the way that a player should that earns that amount but he doesn't score enough nor does he have the talent to do so.
4. Okafor's ability will never complement Dalembert at all because a team can't expect to win a championship with a front court that only plays defense unless Jordan is the perimeter player.
5.Blatche is already locked into a long term deal where he will shortly be egregiously underpaid.
6. IF Blatche continues to develop like he has and can put up the 18 points and 9 rebounds that he gets in games where he receives starters minutes he will be the perfect compliment to Dalembert because he is a big body that plays with skill, finesse, and power.
7. Nick Young is just a throw in. If he develops that's just icing.
8. Andre Miller will not be part of the future. I would trade him immediately but I don't have a scenario in mind. I like what I see in OJ Mayo as the PG of the future. He reminds me so much of Chauncey Billups offensively. He plays lock down defense like Gary Payton.
9.The Sixers will have an extremely large amount of cap money for many years, even in 2010 when Lebron and Wade are free agents.

Okafor Versus Smith
October 14th: Hawks versus Bobcats: 117 - 109 Hawks Win.
Okafor: 34 MIN, 3-8 FG, 8 TOT, 1 AST, 5 PF, 2 BS, 6 PTS
Smith: 19 MIN, 6-10 FG, 3 TOT, 2 AST, 2 PF, 5 BS, 15 PTS
December 15th: Hawks versus Bobcats: 93 - 84 Hawks Win.
Okafor: 36 MIN, 4-9 FG, 14 TOT, 1 AST, 2 PF, 2 BS, 14 PTS
Smith: 41 MIN, 5-9 FG, 10 TOT, 6 AST, 5 PF, 2 BS, 19 PTS
Head-to-Head
Okafor: 13.9 PPG, 10.8 RPG, .8 APG, 1.7 BPG, .541 FG%, 33.8 MPG
Smith: 18.1 PPG, 8.0 RPG, 3.9 APG, 3.4 BPG, .443 FG%, 36 MPG
Smith: 6'9, 235 lbs
Okafor: 6'10 255 lbs
Conclusion: Okafor is going to give us more rebounds per game, shoots a better FG%, and has 1'' BUT 20 lbs on Smith - which is one of the reasons why he's probably a better rebounder and better post player. On the other hand, Smith scores ~ 4 more ppg than Okafor, blocks more shots than Okafor, and averages ~ 3 more assists than Okafor.
My Conclusion: The player I WANT is Smith. The player we NEED is Okafor. But I'd be more than happy to have either on our roster.

I am however, a Nick Young Fan. The guy reminds me of a little of Rip. Dala just doesnt seem like a natural fit long term at sg.
Blatche is a PF, he has the foot speed of a Haslem.

I do appreciate the BIG "if" that you put on that. Again, I'm sold on Blatche so you're preaching to the choir. I just don't like the trade you posted. I would prefer to see if there are ways of getting Blatche that don't involve your boy (yes you LOVE him), Andre Iguodala.
How far away do you believe we are from seeing Blatche develop into a consistent threat? I think we're 2 years away from that point.
Does anyone think Brandan Wright has a chance to be something??

Did anyone else notice Reggie Evans drive on CV and dunk on him? That Blatche's total indifference on defense helped kick start the 76ers 4th quarter run to win the game. I have no interest in either of those players since neither one has shown the slightest inclination to play a lick of defense.
Don't worry, that builds character and you can never have too much character...

EXTREEMLY low. I would say there is NO chance they don't match. They lack quality bigs, they spent a high pick on him, he's doing what most expected from him at this point in his career....there is no reason to suspect they won't match.

I think I'm getting back on the Brandan Wright bandwagon. The kid is 20 years old and could/should be the long term answer to the PF spot here. Acquiring him now or before the draft would enable the Sixers to make PG the top item on our summer shopping list.
PG: Miller (for now)
SG: Iguodala
SF: Young
PF: Wright
C: Dalembert

You make all great points but you're missing one crutial piece to that puzzle. Bob Johnson has been talked about as being the new "Donald Sterling" and that he will be extremely tight with spending. Okafor is the first chance the Bobcats and Johnson will have to show that they will keep their young players and not let them walk. The Bobcats failed last summer at signing him to an extension so that alone has to raise an eyebrow. '
Personally, I would love to test Johnson and see if some of these reports are true rather than just pass on him. The same thing sort of applies to Smith and the ownership mess in Atlanta.

I think Blatche is a 15ppg 9 rebound 2 blocks guy right now. Problem is that Jamison is a 21 and 10 guy...I really don't know where the line for a "consistent threat" is drawn, but I believe that if Blatche goes through this upcoming summer with the knowledge that he will be a starter for a team then he will be very close to the 20 10 guy that I see him being.

They went out last year durng the draft and spent big $$ to bring in Jason Richardson for a high draft pick and an excemption. Where are the reports about them being cheap coming from? You don't make a move to get a Jason Rishardon if you are cheap.

Blatche needs to learn how to not foul for him to ever be that type of player. There's no way he could consistenly stay on the court long enough to average those #'s even if he was give the minutes. My biggest concern about Blatche is his complete lack of interest in playing D. That dunk that Lou Williams had over him was unforgiveable. He just stood there and didn't even try to contest it. I have seen many other plays defensively like that by Blatche. He does have some good offensive tools for a kid his age, but I just don't see the passion for the game right now. It could show up as he matures (and he has a LOT of that to do), but it's no given.

2 things...
1) The reports, more like one line rumors, have been coming out for the past 2 years from columnists like Chad Ford, John Hollinger, and Marc Stein.
2) Like I said, those reports started about 2 years ago and while the Richardson trade added salary... I think the real thing that squashes those reports was the re-signing of Matt Carroll and Gerald Wallace. Because of those deals, I think Johnson has shown that he'll spend to keep players.
So forget what I posted 'cause those rumors are put to rest. Again though, the fact that Okafor didn't sign an extension at least raises the chance that Charlotte might not be willing to break the bank for him.
