We are close to the playoffs and the trade deadline, so we make a deal to get us closer to the playoffs or a deal to get us closer to the lottery and ride out the year with our current team and then make a move.

This is gonna get locked, but I don't think Ed is going to make any moves this season. Trading Korver will most likely be the only thing that he has done this season.

No short-sighted moves should be made. I'm fine if a trade is done but it has to be something that benefits us for the long-term.

Phil Jasner wrote a column that addresses this thread's subject as well.

Also, I just saw Dwayne Wade on ESPN's "First Take" and man... the Heat are doing exactly what we should have been doing since the Iverson trade.

First of all, they're in the lead for the worst record. Secondly, they figure to either have Shawn Marion for a season and a half or the most cap space available this summer.

Wasn't this supposed to be "our" summer??? Weren't we supposed to be the team that added TWO major impact players (draft and free agency) to our roster?

The Heat won a championship 2 years ago and I would argue that despite the fact that the just started rebuilding, they are WAY ahead of us at this point.

They are just smarte than us but I would not claim that they are way ahead of us. They have some ugly contracts on their team and their franchise player is not the most sustainable. He misses like 20 games a year.

While I'm not a fan of Banks or Blount or their contracts, their deals aren't so bad that they kill their cap.

Blount will have 2 years and $15MIL left on his deal and Banks will have 3 years and $13MIL. Other than that, the Heat are in GREAT shape especially when you consider that they will probably add either Beasley or Rose to that team in the draft.

If the Heat draft Beasley, they can then trade Haslem for a PG. If they draft Rose, they can plug him into the lineup next to Wade, Marion, Haslem, and Blount. Either way... they are ahead of us.

Riley is one of the best basketball minds in the history of the NBA. Miami will be better than us in no time. Finding somebody to take Shaq was smart, finding somebody to take Shaq and give you an all-star like Marion in return was pure genius.

Marion and Wade would both be the best players on our roster. Add in a top 5 pick and maybe somebody for Williams' expiring contract at the deadline and they will be right back at the top of the East in a year or two.

It is not set in stone that Miami will draft Beasley or any similar type of player. First of all there are still 30 games left and then they have to win the lottery. The last years have shown that the odds are not that good for the best projected team. Personally I don't even think that they will finish as the worst team in the league. So they might alien themselves from a better position.

As far as having the better players: Except for Wade, who is very injury-prone, their roster doesn't scare me (still depends on the outcome of the lottery whether they land Beasley/Rose or not). Marion is certainly NOT better than Iguodala. Wright has shown some flashes but still lacks consistency. So does Cook. Haslem has already reached his peak. The remainder is not worth to mention. I am not convinced of the Heat by any means.
