I don't have a problem with people who have strong opinions - heaven knows that I have a strong opinion at times - but part of being in a community is knowing how to "share the bandwidth"...
- don't be afraid to compliment somebody when they've written a good post (even when - and even especially when - it is somebody that you don't necessarily see eye-to-eye with on the forum);
- during a debate, instead of just staying in "attack" mode, perhaps now and then say, "well, that's a fair point, but I'm not sure that I agree with you and here's why"...and I think this is especially true when someone provides solid, credible statistics to support their point. There is nothing more maddening than when a poster simply chooses to not even acknowledge solid statistics - thinking that all they need to do in response is YELL LOUDER;
- at the end of the day, many of the disagreements that occur on this forum are disagreements of opinion - where there really is no "right" or "wrong" answer...and sometimes just saying that it's OK if you don't agree with my opinion can go a long way....
I actually think the quality of the board is pretty solid right now...certainly much better than the days of Ricky and Jem...for the most part, people seem to get along pretty well...and when they don't, there's always the "Ignore" function...

LOL! When were the good ol' days? I mean, this board was polarized by Ricky and Jem for a good 2 years before this season and even before that there were some "toughies".
Wait... am I the **** because of the Ed Stefanski stuff???
The good ol days... When you and I and Johnny Broadstreet joined and when BillyBudd,Prerak,Ai,Nofx,Cpops,Tyhill is the next mj,arfer,numbers and everyones favorite ACE posted

PS to anyone I forgot I apologize... (In voice from song that I can't remember but people should know what I mean. Ya know, me love you long time) it been long time.

I will say that back in the day (2002) when I joined.... this board was a really solid place for intelligent basketball discussion.
I said it before, but I think that there are some really good posters on here now (I won't name names because I'll forget somebody). I think the mods do an awesome job of keeping the order so I'm a happy poster.
By the way, Carmelo... where have you been?? You disappeared for a while. Also, I do remember you having that username before Melo even played a game at the 'Cuse so props to you.

I've been around, Army's been keeping me busy. But I kinda just forgot about this place during the spell where this board just went to shiiiit.
And so far from what I've seen I agree, there are quite a few good posters on here they just need to asert themselves more for lack of a better term.
And I bleed orange

Walk the city lonely
Memories that haunt are passing by
A murderer walks your streets tonight
Forgive me for my crimes;don't forget that I was so young
Fought so scared in the name of God and Country

Well, I guess it is appropriate that I weigh in on this topic, since I am in the middle of some of the controversial postings.
I am a long-time Sixer fan and fairly knowledgable about the game. My comments are based upon observation of the team in action and articles on philly.com, etc ...
Most of my postings are of a positive nature expressing hope for the near and far future based on positive things I observe with the team and moves made by the administration.
I have found that the nature of many (if not most) of the postings on this board are of a negative nature, complaining about coaching decisions, administration decisions, player decisions or actions, etc ... It is my believe, right or wrong, that these negative postings are an attempt by the poster to paint themselves as some sort of basketball guru who somehow is highly superior to the administrators, coaches, players in the NBA and specifically within the Sixers organization.
Sorry, but I just cannot swallow that concept so, from time to time when I encounter what I consider a particularly unwarranted expression of negativity toward the coaches or administrators I will comment on how I feel about that.
Likewise, there are times when I see, what I view as unwarranted criticism of a player and I will comment on that indicating that I disagree strongly about that.
Many times, if not every time, I am met with agressive retaliatory postings containing statistics, sarcasm or both "proving" I am wrong, stupid or both for my view.
Now, I can have that same view and conversation with friends and co-workers and I will get cordial responses indicating they agree or disagree but not agressive "that is stupid" types of replys. Why is that ?
That is because this is an internet forum where you can say anything you want and you never have to face the actual person in real life. What I would like to see is for everyone on the forum to pretend that these are real people (which they are), with real feelings (which they have), and make comments as though they are their friends (which they aren't) and would like them to remain their friends.
So, there you have it ... You Asked ... LOL ...

That's a great post that gets to the heart of it. It's gotten to be too much of uninformed people writing "articles"instead of discussion. The problem is, nobody wants to read "articles" by the unqualified.
I have no problem with someone discussing something and being wrong or having a different opinion or pointing out that I am wrong....it's just annoying to read long-winded "articles" which don't spur on conversation and come across as authoritative.

Annoying or not, I respect the posters who have stayed active over the last few years. Lots of people jump ship during down years- especially after we trade our star.
I'm sure this board will be hopping in the next few years as we return to relevance for the casual fans. I may not agree with everyone here now, but I'll remember you were the core of the fanbase that cared even while we were down.

As for the long winded posts delivered from the soapbox- I guess I am about as guilty as anyone.
Sometimes you just have to vent about the team, and this is a good place for it. If a post is to long I'll usually skip or skim it. I'm sure the same can be said for when I go into "open letter" mode.
The only thing that really has to change here is the hijacking of posts. We can't have a few posters carrying on the same argument across all of the active threads at the same time. The posts start out as different topics, and then are hijacked into the same argument (Dala sucksm Mo Sucks, Carney sucks...)

I totally agree and would add to the list of repetitive arguments .... the frequent references to TRADES. Someone brings up a trade possibility out of nowhere and the post deteriorates into a discussion/argument about the merits of such a trade. This tends to get ... sorry, no better word for it ... boring .... at least to me. I view these trade ideas as pure fantasy with no relation to real life at all and are just fodder for further arguments.
