Sir Charles: on several occassions Ed has said that being 10mil under the cap allows us to sign a 20mill player

I cant explain all the COLLECTIVE bargaining agreement etc....

you can go over the cap, and then you have the luxury tax number which is about 10mill more than the salary cap

there is leadway as it is a "soft salary" cap

Alright well that's completely wrong but we'll ignore that because I like the recap you gave at the start of this thread.

i know its wrong, im too tired of typin all that other stuff my brain left me for a few minutes (people who dont like me insert joke here:_____)

i believe when he made those points, he was referring to trading (say Andre) while under the cap $10mill for a $20mill player....
----
----

NOW -- all that being said, there is about a $10mill (or so) difference between the Salary Cap & the Lux Tax number.

i now also THINK I remember that the MLE can only be used when you are over the cap (??)

-----
-----

I believe with those HUGE clarificatioins, I get CLOSER to the truth.

sorry Mr Moderator... I'll go sit in the chair for quiet time now

ive had a busy day:

listening
typing
reading
typing
reading

its hard man! lol
------
------

funny thing too: and I'll disclaimer "this is me reading into the call today...!!"
------
------

when referring to the Korver trade, which was surrounded by questoins of the young kids playing, and climaxed w Ed saying directly that the trade allowed/is allowing Thad (specifically what he said) more playing time....

and then going right into: "kids are playing and we're winning"
------
------

its seems obvious to me.. that winning was not the most important thing...

It never was. Are we going to win the NBA title? Hell no. I love sipping the cool aid, but not that much cool aid.

willie green

Post#26 » by sweetlou23 » Tue Feb 12, 2008 9:51 pm

is willie green out of the mix? he was not mentioned in the core group. Also, Andre miller is having a great season, but i think eds praise is bordering on overkill. he does not need to convince the fans that miller has been extremely productive. i'm beginning to wonder if he is trying to increase millers market value. your thoughts?

Ed

I also believe that Ed may be talking up Miller in order to increase his value. But, that being said, he will also be a valuable chip heading into next year as well.

Perhaps Ed is trying to get a 1st in a Miller deal in order to send it to Memphis for Lowry. So a Miller deal would include cap space, Lowry and perhaps a young player like Reddick.

I get the feeling there's something going on. Stephanski has been REALLY visible and overly supportive of Miller. Not that I'm convinced he's being moved, but I wouldn't be surprised if this was an attempt to affect the market

i think Miller is going to dealt but I would rather wait and see what we can get with an expiring deal. Imagine if Miller was expiring this year. We could have netted guys like Jermaine O'Neal, Vince Carter, Jason Kidd, Pau Gasol and probably Bibby (since the expring is a good PG). Expirings have alot of value. Best to wait right now.

In the interim, put Carney in the starting lineup and see how he does with Thad and Iggy.

SG and PF are real issues. I want to start Louie at the SG, but Andre Miller isn't a good defender. So we can't do ALA Iverson. But, since we aren't winning anything it's worth a try.

I wouldn't be surprised if this were an attempt to get fansp repared for no trade at the deadline.

I cant say Ed isn't trying to OVERSELL Miller, I just know how we felt when he got traded here last yr.

None of us expected him to "gel" our team like he has. And i think the same 'is true of Ed this yr- he saw Miller from "afar" but now up close and game in and game out, he sees how much Miller really does.

I mean- have you seen how many 20pt games he has this year compared to last??? He does whatever the team "needs" and I think Ed is genuinely surprised/impressed w him.

sweetlou23: Willie Green was not ever mentioned during this WIP interview today. The others were. (think what you will of that)

to all others: All of us can speculate on whether or not he is lying, tellin the truth or "gm speak" ... either side of the coin could be right.

my opinion is that he hasnt really sweet talked or lied as of yet. I take him as simply tryin his best to be truthful; to be genuine.

some of you obviously differ --and thats cool. He hasnt earned our trust and any of these teams from Philly have all made us "gun-shy!"

I'm happy either way. I've always loved Andre Miller. Especially when he was tearing it up with my beloved Clip-Show.

I really trust Ed Stephanski for some reason. I feel like the guy stearing knows where he's going for once

if we end up with a mid round pick... how about Serge Ibaka?

He looks like he could be a steal in the mid round... if he has the right coaching

He is a little simmilar to Sam, but i think he might have better range. In the on video they are testing his vert and he goes 42 , but that was as high as they could get it... implying he could go higher.

You know, I have that same confidence in him. I can't exactly say why. He has only made the Korver deal. But his interviews, etc ... seem to indicate that he has a set vision for what he wants and is going about the business of building it.
