Augustin or Lawson

Post#1 » by PaKwAn » Wed Feb 13, 2008 3:09 am

Both are said to be 5'11" point guards. Who do you think would play and do better in the NBA?

Augustin easy for me.

I dont like the fact Lawson gets badly out of control and his shot worries me also.

Lately Augustin has struggled with his shot especially defenders who are long. What im worried about Augustin though is that he is not that athletic and strong.

Lawson on the other hand is not that great of a shooter but i like his built because he can absorb contact from bigger players.

I like both an awful lot, but I think Augustine will be the bigger impact player at the NBA level.

lawson. the question is can this guy stay healthy. he has a better body and is more athletic. if can learn to play under control and develop his jumper a little bit more he will be one hell of a nba point guard.

Agreed. I do think they will both have similar careers. However, I think Lawson's game just fits the NBA more.

Even with the 1 for 13 shooting day, Augustin is clearly the better prospect, imo.

Lawson for me not really close either. Augustin should be a solid pro, but Lawson's game is better suited for the pros like someone mentioned. Call me crazy, but I honestly believe his game is being held back under Coach Williams offense.

I don't think it is at all actually. He just plays with a scoring machine in Tyler Hansbrough down low. His physical attributes are perfect the run and gun UNC system.

I think it would be truly fair to compare Augustin and Lawson if they both played the same role. Augustin is depended on to score he is their first option. Lawson on the other hand is UNC's 3rd option scoring behind Hansbrough and Ellington.

The stats he was putting up in ACC play were incredible before he got injured and you can tell just how much it is hurting UNC watching them. Before his injury he was averaging 15.8 points, 8.1 assists, and 2.1 turnovers in ACC play. He was well on his way to first team All-ACC.

The only real reason I like Ty over Augustin is physical abilities. Otherwise Augustin would have a real edge because he has a quicker release and a more consistant jumpshot.

Augustin is a great athlete. However Ty is an outstanding athlete, a freak of nature that can't be guarded one on one. Athletic ability IMHO is the difference maker.

IMHO you can't go wrong with either of them. I just think down the road Lawson will edge Augustin out by a little bit.

Both willl be good but i would pick Lawson due to his outstanding quickness and strength which should allow him to do more in the NBA.

PG-Rose/Bayless/Lawson/Augustin/Collison
SG-Gorden/Mayo/Douglas-Roberts/Rush/Foster
SF-Gallinari/Batum/Greene/Budinger/Smith
PF-Beasley/Love/Hansbrough/Arthur/Hendrix
C-Lopez/Hibbert/Thabeet/Ogilvy/Jawai or Dorsey

top 5 each postion imo

pretty good draft class imo not the greatest but i think theres a few all-stars there , btw before people say wheres deandre jordan i didnt count him mainly cause i think he will stay in college

and yes Lawson > Augustin but i may be biased since im a NC fan

I don't know a lot about Gallinari so I can't really say anything about him, but I would also add Brandon Rush tied with Tyler Smith or maybe even above him and take off Smith.

To me Augustin is the better player right now and its not even close. He has a very complete game offensively. However, while Augustin is very quick he doesn't have the SPEED that Lawson has, and although both are going to struggle defensively I think Lawson will at least be able to be a pesky defender whereas Augustin might just be flat out bad. So it's definitely reasonable to think that Lawson has the higher upside.

I think Augustin is a guy who step in right away and be a key contributor with his excellent shooting, passing, and ball handling. Lawson may have a little more all-star potential. It really depends on the team that is drafting.

Augustin's shooting for me is a big difference for me as prospects. Having great speed can only get you so far in the NBA. Im not sold on Lawson as a shooter which could negate alot of his effectiveness on offense.

I like Augustine as the #3 PG and Greene as the #1 SF, followed by Gallinari and Batum.

I really like Augustine but I don't think I would take it that far. All of those guys have size and at least IMO are a bit more explosive.
