Ah, I got it - Nets would WAIVE Stack, not buy him out, Mavs claim Stack (and his full contract) off waivers, Nets get to use him for salary matching purposes but don't have to take on his salary.

Yep, that's circumvention.

Buyout (with the money Cuban gives them), waive, clear waivers, sign with Mavs for vet minimum. Stack basically gets a 30-day paid vacation.

Hop, why would Stack take a $3 mil buyout (the max "cash considerations" Dallas can give) when he's owed around $18 mil on the remainder of his contract? Even if the League office looks the other way, that's just not gonna happen.

Looks like its going thru, without Stack or George this time.

By Ian Thomsen, SI.com

The New Jersey Nets have reached agreement on their long-discussed trade of Jason Kidd to the Dallas Mavericks, SI.com has confirmed from league sources.

The Mavericks will send New Jersey the semi-retired Keith Van Horn in addition to Trenton Hassell, as well as Devin Harris, Sagana Diop, Maurice Ager, two first-round picks and cash. In the exchange Dallas will get Kidd and Malik Allen.

A similar trade almost collapsed last week when Devean George exercised his right to veto the trade to Dallas, and Jerry Stackhouse revealed plans for him to be waived by New Jersey in order to return to the Mavericks. In its latest form George and Stackhouse have been replaced by Hassell and Van Horn.

Jersey's taking Hassell? I wonder if he'll be released, with Dallas picking him up off waivers?

Kidd also mentioned at the All Star game today that he thinks he'll end up in Dallas when all is said and done.

Wau....much better deal for Dallas.

Hassell is completely overpaid at $13M over the next three years. And not having to give up Stackhouse really helps a lot.

What's interesting is that if the trade is as reported:

Kidd, Malik Allen
for
D.Harris, Diop, KVH, Hassell, and Ager

then Jersey will have to cut one of its guys to make room...likely being Darell Armstrong.

Looks like the deal is now going to require the Mavs to release Juwan Howard and/or Nick Fazekas. The Mavs will have 17 players after the deal as reported is consummated requiring them to make the cuts.

This $hit is getting crazier by the minute thanks to all the salary crap bs.

Poor Dallas....

2 franchise big men change teams and Cuban doesnt want to be left in the dust.. they made a move that wont net them what they want and traded their best asset for getting a young star...

Not really. Dallas has been in talks with New Jersey before the Gasol and Shaq deals went down. We needed to make a deal, anything, with or without those teams making moves; we're a mess.

I'm not getting all the recent Devin Harris hype. I thought I liked the guy until I watched him in our playoff series last year. I was less impressed than I expected with his actual play, and thoroughly disgusted with his Ginobiliesque flopping.

Exactly how I feel.

I wonder if New Jersey is really down on Marcus Williams? I thought that kid would be a really good PG. Now with Harris there, Williams won't get his shot.

I heard about the Shaq one, not the Gasol one though. I think talks would have to have ended when the Grizz realized that Conley and Harris play the same positions :D

A coach of mine kicked the idea of trading Dirk to try and land a more inside style post presence... would Dallas revolt if that happened?
