the league should work with the players union to establish accounts for these guys so that a portion of their yearly salary goes in that they can't touch to prevent situations like this happening. The chance of that occurring, where the league mandates what grown men do with their money, is quite slim.

No it wouldn't be a pool that everyone in the NBA collects from. It'd be like individual accounts, for instance Vin Baker would have his own account that only his money would go into that he couldn't touch until he retired or til 5 years after he retired. That way, these guys couldn't blow it all. I'm sure many NBA players see the importance and actual value of money once they've retired and no longer wake up 5 million dollar pay days every year. It'd be an attempt to prevent 20/20 hindsight and instead have a safety net for guys who blew their money when they were playing
