As I said earlier... there could be a new sheriff in town when it comes to cap space this summer.
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/columns/s ... ets-080219
Chris Sheridan (and others I've read) wrote about a rumored three team deal that is in the works that will contain the following main pieces with filler to be added.
To NJN: Ricky Davis (expiring), Jason Williams (expiring)
To NYK: Vince Carter
To MIA: Eddy Curry
Chad Ford has reported that if the Nets can get expirings for Carter that they will have somewhere between $15-$20MIL in cap space. Combine their cap space with the fact that they are moving to Brooklyn in the near future and the Nets could become an attractive team for big name players to sign with or want to be traded to.

Ya, my grandma told me a long time ago that if you want something, you have to ask for it.
Plus, the suspense of the deadline is fun... oh to be a fly on Ed's walls to hear what's going on.
I know SF is saying Miller is not going to be moved, but what if, what if Clev steps up and offers the sun and moon?
Not a bad trait...I'm anxious to see the next move as well. It's awful quiet though, and others are making moves to steal Ed's thunder in the off season. The way it looks now, the Sixers will not be the only team with space to use.

The unfortunate part of the salary cap game is that you can't hang onto everyone.
Good point. However I don't see that many viable options out there & I don't want to overpay Arenas. Brand needs to stay in LA. That leaves the RFAs whose teams will probably match.

Kind of OT, but didn't warrant its own thread so I'm placing in here where most of you will see it...
A potential low risk / high potential PF prospect this summer is Marcus Haslip the former lottery pick of the Bucks. He stunk up the NBA, but has started to pull his game together over in Europe. He's young, 6'10" and in the athletic mold the Sixers seem eager build around. Here is an expert from a DraftExpress follow-up on Haslip:
Marcus Haislip, 6-10, Power Forward, Unicaja Malaga, 1980
Jonathan Givony
Although his team made a quick exit after losing in the first day, the glimpses Marcus Haislip dropped were probably enough to show once again that we

Boy things sure are quiet in Philly...the whole league basically, it could be that the NBA shot it's proverbial load the last couple weeks with all the trades or it's the calm before the storm tomorrow.
From the looks of it Ed is going to hold onto Miller, which is probably the right move, but last nights loss vs. MIN scares the hell out of me. If the Sixers are going to lose games like that they might as well bite the bullet and trade Miller while the demand is high ie. Cleveland. Not going to happen from everything in print though.
I'm still hoping for trade, I really like the idea of bringing Charlie V. over from the Bucks if the asking price is not too much.

I believe this is where the conspiracy theorists would point out that the Grizzlies were protecting him from injury. The same could be said of Eddy Curry playing 15 minutes in a game that went into OT.

count me as one of those guys who thinks we arent going to make another move...i also dont think we are going to have the huge splash we are expecting this summer...just a gut feeling (nd you know what, that might be the best thing)...i just pray we dont pull a cleveland and miss out on our two targets so we settle for another guy (hughes when missing ray allen and michael redd)

Someone on ESPN (Stein?) said that there is no "over the top" trade that will be made this year in the West and a I agree. If the Spurs get Artest, I would put them as the favorites but I don't think they easily win the title or get there. The West is just far too loaded for any team to run the table with ease.

I disagree for the fact that they give up essentially nothing for Artest. They have the two best wing defenders in the league and the best big man defender in the league. No team would be able to score on them. On top of that Artest just gives them another offensive weapon to go on it.
Maybe saying they'd easily win it is a little over the top because nobody ever wins the title easily. But I would be shocked if any team took them past 6 games.

Is it just me or has the rumor mill been completely useless this season??
The Gasol trade came out of nowhere
The Shaq trade came out of nowhere
The Bibby trade came out of nowhere
The Korver trade came out of nowhere
The Kidd trade was rumored for a while but the rumor mill had the Mavs as having no interest and then it happened... well, sort of.
My point is that these teams are doing a great job of keeping MAJOR trades out of the paper until either a trade is announced or a 7'2" man in is on an airplane headed to Phoenix. I wonder if any of these rumored deals are going to happen or if the trend will continue where we will see deals that have not been written about.
