Not exactly true but I hear you. There is an incredible amount of irrational anger sent his way particularly when you can get accused of not being a magic fan for not liking some other people in the organization. No doubt about the hypocrisy there.

Don't really get it myself. Facts really don't support the Arroyo hate.

Fact - earlier this year he was getting serious burn from the best coach the Magic have had in a while.

Fact- after Nelson recovered Arroyo was still getting the playing time over him.

So its obvious the Stan doesn't think he's a complete waste. I'm more a fan of Dooling than arroyo but our PG spot isn't all that great to be crucifying any one playing the point.

Garrity sucks and should never play again!! And, of course someone will dispute that - I don't care what nationality Garrity is - never, ever, ever play him again.

yes he is my 2nd cousin.

and stop comparing Garrity to arroyo because you guys have not had threads over 50 pages saying your hatred for pat.

I am all for creating a 100 page thread on my hatred for Pat Garrity - really I don't hate him - it is just that he is currently the worst player in the NBA and I can't stand to see him enter the game ever - he is pitiful. Garrity makes Arroyo look like Michael Jordan.

I'm not a big fan of Arroyo - the hate on Arroyo, BB is from all the threads screaming injustice for Arroyo and how great he is and how everything is unfair where Arroyo is concerned and he has a better win record when he starts etc. and the attacks on Jameer are often from Arroyo fans - so it gets kind of old.

Anyway, we could get a very high rate of agreement on an I hate Garrity as a player - nice guy though.

I don't see a need for Arroyo on our team when we have Jameer and Dooling - Dooling brings something different than Jameer, but Carlos doesn't bring anything different than Jameer - both weak defensively - I think Jameer has potential if he'll put in the effort and both are short. Other than that I think Jameer has more skill.

I just care if the guy can play and if he is good - I don't get at all excited about Arroyo - not even a little bit - I would say the same if he were U.S. born or European, etc. Nobody is hating on Hedo - he is playeing well - who cares where he is from.

Hey BB, if someone is racist then they pay a price for that - they have to live with themselves and they are ignorant. A person pays a price for being ignorant so they pay a price. We get back what we put out in the world.

Now, again I am not a fan of Carlos, but I agree that there are a lot of ignorant people - a lot of them don't know any better and they do pay a price - they may not think they do, but they do. If you look at them as ignorant and not knowing any better and knowing the pay a price you can not take it so personally as it doesn't have anything to do with you - it is about that person and their ignorance. I could go on, but I wouldn't sweat it if you can ignore it.

Some of it, I think, comes down to Stan and to Mo Evans. For the most part, I think Van Gundy is trying to shorten his rotation and get guys more accustomed to playing the way they play as the Magic move toward and into the postseason. And he has flat out said that he has a difficult time finding playing time for three point guards when everyone is healthy (although the Magic need three points because they never get through the season with their point guards healthy the entire time).

Stan really likes Keyon's defense, and before he could get him on the court at the shooting guard spot. Now, with Evans playing pretty well, too, he has moved Keyon back to the point. So then he has to pick between Jameer and Carlos if they both are healthy. Whichever one doesn't start, that guy's fans starting bashing the guy who does start.

I think Carlos' fans didn't do him any favors in that way because then some of them started coming out and saying that Jameer had to be traded because the Magic have to re-sign Carlos because otherwise the Puerto Rican community would withdraw all their support and get all mad. It created a backlash with some. Both guys have their weaknesses at the spot. There only is so much playing time. The decision about who fits best doesn't come down to us anyway.

I don't think we can say for sure what will happen long term. Jameer is signed for a while. I think Stan would like the Magic to re-sign Keyon, but they don't know what he will do in free agency or how much money some other team might offer him. Carlos might not be going anywhere. One thing that has impressed me about him is he stays involved in the game even when he is not playing. It appears that he talks with Jameer about some things going on on the floor during breaks of play. As I have said in the past, I believe the two of them get along fine so it would be nice if their fans could, too, and not try to bash one or the other. Carlos has not made big problems as Jameer did not when he wasn't starting. Carlos likely will be playing on some NBA team next season -- maybe the Magic -- unless maybe he gets offered more to play in Europe.

As far as whether we bash Garrity, he is the one guy who I have most wanted gone for many years now. I wanted the Magic to make a deal at the trade deadline to finally get something of value for him after that six-year deal that Gabriel signed him to. But then I have wanted him traded at the trade deadline -- and over the summer -- for years. It's not completely his fault. I was never really a fan, but the guy got hurt too badly in that 2003-04 season and basically hasn't been able to play well enough again and just has been a drag on the cap (though I hear he's a good locker room guy and always tries to do what the coaches tell him). I just don't talk about it because he rarely gets on the court.

Jameer, Dooling, Evans, and Bogans are all better than Arroyo. That is the root of the issue.

I disagree. Jameer is pretty solid. Not every team can have a Chris Paul or Jason Kidd.

I also think Jameer is solid. He doesn't defend well, but he does enough everywhere else to be a solid but not spectacular PG.

I think Jameer has potential to be very good and has shown glimpses of what he could bring. I have faith in Stan that he'll help Nelson get it together and I think we may see it this season.

The real problem we have is no real PF.

Whats so funny? you think Arroyo should be playing over Jameer? Fact is Jameer is more serviceable than half the PG's in the league...

Arroyo will get 0 minutes tonight... Hell yeah

I think the (in some cases irrational) hatred of arroyo stems from three things.

First, the guy is just so damn inconsistent. He has all the talent in the world, but he just doesn't seem to be able to understand what is obvious to everyone else. He needs to PASS THE DAMN BALL, quit chucking, realize that at any given moment on the court he is the forth best scoring option, and understand that a simple pass is just as effective as a no-look ally-oop. He's always looking for the spectacular play instead of the most effective one and that attitude is causing a hell of a lot of turnovers and bonehead plays.

Second, people generally don't like overt publicity moves and that is exactly what arroyo's presence on the magic is at this point. It is clear he either can't or won't change his ways despite numerous opportunities to do so on a variety of different (and as others have mentioned very well-coached) teams. The magic knew this yet brought him in anyway in what one can only assume is an effort to put hispanic butts in seats. Every team he has been on has eventually come to the conclusion that he is just not worth the trouble. Is it really that much of a surprise that magic fans would come to the same conclusion as Jerry Sloan and Larry Brown?

^
BTW, I certainly have felt the same way about some other overt publicity moves, such as that woman the Lightning brought in to "play" goalie a few years ago.

Finally, it is possible that there is a bit of racism floating around. Anyone that has spent a significant amount of time in Central Florida couldn't help but come to the conclusion that we aren't exactly flush with the cream of the crop from puerto rico (or if we are, that country must be absolutely horrible). I've certainly had many more bad experiences with people from that island than any other group of people I regularly come in contact with and I don't think that is entirely an coincidence. If anything I would say Central Florida has characteristics that seem to attract puerto ricans of poor character. Of course that doesn't excuse outright racism (there are certainly many great people from puerto rico living in Central Florida as well), but I can certainly understand why some might have some harsh feelings.
