Kobe guards Parker / Ariza guards Manu?

Post#1 » by Pedro Pistolas » Sun Mar 2, 2008 6:15 am

If the Lakers ever do face the boring Spurs in the playoffs , those are the match ups that Phil needs to set forth. Kobe should be able to slow down Parker by himself. And Ariza is long enough to slow down Manu. I kinda fear Ariza getting into foul trouble guarding Manu though . Hopefully his injury is fully healthy come playoff time.

what you guys think...

I think Farmar is a better matchup against Parker. He has the speed to slow Parker down or at least bother him quite a bit. Kobe is a great defender but he is too big to guard Parker. Not to mention he is going to wear himself out and therefore doesn't have enough energy to focus on offense. As far as Ginobili go, Ariza is exactly the type of defender we should put on him. Ariza is longer, quicker and more athletic and knows how to guard perimeter players. Even if he gets into foul trouble, it's not like ginobili is going to play 45 minutes per game anyway.

I'd switch them. Kobe's is good on Manu and Ariza can use his length against Tony. Also a healthy Bynum would bold well to block Tony's lay up trills.

Lo will be playing SF on Manu...

Bynum will be drawing double teams and every laker not a PG will be blocking shots
Lakers are 22-3 in OT last 6 seasons:Kobe best OT closer!

Fish/Farmar vs. Parker
Odom/Ariza vs. Manu
Bynum vs. Duncan

With that said whos gonna stop Kobe and Gasol?

Our lenth and atheleticism will give them trouble. Duncan weakness is long and tall players and Bynum is not only long and tall, but has developed into a great defender thanks to Kareem. Plus, Manu and Parker won't be as efective with Bynum guarding the paint.

Fisher and Kobe both from the original Lakers. They were able to slow down Manu and Ginobli from the 3-peat years.

the days that kobe could guard the steve nash's and tony parker's of the world are long gone. rule changes, bigger load on offense, good ol age are all factors.

Well if you look at this from a man on man situation the spurs MIGHT have the advantage. I dont think anyone can gaurd the other player on both sides of the ball. I think they all cancel themselves out. The spurs are not a great man on man defensive team. They play great team defense. That being said, I have to give the edge to the lakers only because Manu and parker will not be able to waltz down the lane on the lakers when we have two 7 footers and a 6'10 guy down there. While Parker has worked on his "J" he still not deadly. He's best when going to the basket hitting on of those crazy layups.

The problem are those Spurs role players. Finley, Horry, Udanka or whatever his name is. That dude killed us last time.

Kobe's a great defender, but I don't think he's quick enough to guard Parker. I think he'd be able to handle Nash pretty well, but Parker would wear him down and that's not something we want. Farmar would be the best guy to put on Parker.

Keep Fish/Farmar on Parker but then switch Ariza onto him if they're getting burned. Keep Kobe on Bowen and occasionally on Manu and Parker in spot situations, with Odom the primary defender on Manu.
