Biedrins back in the swing of things

Biedrins back in swing after sitting six games

MIAMI - Andris Biedrins claimed the high-arcing reverse layup that he kissed off the glass for the Warriors' first two points Friday night was his new signature move. But he wouldn't give it a name.

Leave it to Baron Davis to pick up the easy assist.

"That was 'Sweet Latvia' right there," Davis said of Biedrins' shot.

There was nothing sour about Biedrins' return Friday. After missing two weeks and six games because of an emergency appendectomy, he provided a fair impersonation of the Warriors' leading rebounder (four in 18 minutes) and the NBA's most accurate shooter (3 for 3, raising his field-goal percentage to 62.8 percent). "It means a lot, especially when he can get back to 100 (percent). That's going to make us so much better," Davis said. "His hustle, his offensive rebounding, it's just the little things that he does. That's why a guy like him can come back and get into the swing of things and don't look like he missed a beat."

The layup was just one facet of Biedrins' instant impact. He made a nice show on a pick-and-roll to help force a miss from Udonis Haslem on the Heat's first possession of the evening.

On Golden State's second trip downcourt, Biedrins posted up and kicked the ball out to Stephen Jackson for an open three-pointer.

"It felt good," Biedrins said. "My legs were not there yet, but otherwise it was good. This was a good game for the first game after surgery."
The Warriors have no timetable for a potential return by Chris Webber, who remained in Atlanta earlier this week to continue rehabilitating his painful left knee. The team has said an MRI administered Monday showed nothing out of the ordinary, but the knee underwent microfracture surgery in 2003.

"It really depends on him and his knee," Nelson said. "That micro(fracture) surgery is a tough one. A lot of guys have bit the dust on that."

This is all a smokescreen. It just didn't work out as planned and the plug is being pulled. Low risk move that came up snake eyes. Let's just move on.

BTW, on the Miami board there was a rumor about White Chocolate being waived. Anyone interested in bringing him aboard for some spot backup minutes?

I hope not... the BOS game is fresh in my mind and we were so much more effective w/Webber at the 4... :sigh:

That game became an afterthought the second Biedrins got injured... just a tease to how good our team really could be w/o the gimmick.

If we can meet Boston in the finals, Webb will still be on the roster. So, he can make his miraculous comeback then.

That comment by Nellie about CWeb was definitely some "Nelliespin".

Yeah, just think if we could get Shaq. That would really help this team go places.

:banghead:

We dodged a bullet and are going to get off easy with Webber. Floppy is right. The experiment is over. Lets move on. We are the dominant running team in the NBA. Be happy we're 15 games over .500, fun to watch, making the playoffs. Can the negativity. You want traditional? Go be a Spurs fan.

Wow Vaki.... I dunno if you said anything right in this post.

Who mentioned Shaq?

Thought it was Hopper...

Are you telling me that I'm not a fan of the Warriors because I dont believe in gimmick basketball? That since the #s indicate (and a win against the league's best team) that we play better as a team with traditional ball, and that our coach ignores that and plays smallball, I shouldn't be a fan?

Mount Vaki is erupting

Speaking of Biedrins, I was randomly going through Basketball-Reference.com today (by the way, they updated their site and it's worth a look), and happened to see that Biedrins is 3rd in the league in Offensive Rating, which for players is defined as points produced per 100 posessions. Not really sure how it's calculated, but the list is basically a list of guys whom step on the floor and good things happen. Here's the list, and it's got Monta's ranked #13 too. The Future is looking good.... 8)

Offensive Rating

1. Jose Calderon-TOR 128.8
2. Chauncey Billups-DET 127.6
3. Andris Biedrins-GSW 125.5
4. Josh Childress-ATL 125.2
5. Chris Paul-NOH 123.8
6. Ronnie Brewer-UTA 122.6
7. Amare Stoudemire-PHO 122.4
8. David Lee-NYK 121.3
9. Kevin Martin-SAC 120.4
10. Tyson Chandler-NOH 120.1
11. Peja Stojakovic-NOH 119.4
12. Steve Nash-PHO 119.4
13. Monta Ellis-GSW 118.6
14. Chris Bosh-TOR 118.5
15. Pau Gasol-TOT 118.0
16. Dirk Nowitzki-DAL 117.7
17. Brendan Haywood-WAS 116.9
18. Shane Battier-HOU 116.8
19. LeBron James-CLE 116.8
20. Andrei Kirilenko-UTA 116.8

Wow, some of my favorite non household names like Calderon and Brewer. Josh Childress? Maybe he can be that swingman glue guy with half a brain off the bench that can replace Barntrus.

Yeah, I'm a fan of every dude on that list, and I'm a big Childress fan; he's the player I wish Barnes was. I'd love to get him, but he should get an MLE type deal this offseason. Even a guy like Brendan Haywood is on the list too, one of those guys who doesn't have great numbers, but is under the radar and consistently has a good +/- or just flat out helps his team win.

And speaking of Calderon, I really think that Toronto should just trade Ford at this point and go with Calderon.
