Warriors comparison Talentwise - Today

Post#1 » by turk3d » Sun Mar 9, 2008 6:23 pm

Here's some comparisons to the Warriors top 3 and top 4 players talentwise with the rest of the league (this is not including the bench where I think we are noww really starting to stack up well).

Our top 3 - Baron, Jack, Monta
Our top 4 - Baron, Jack, Monta, Beans

Boston top 3 (obvious) - Garnett, Pierce, Allen (edge - Boston)
Boston top 4 - Garnett, Pierce, Allen, Rondo (edge - Even but our bench may be stronger, we were stronger untill they acquired Cassell and PJ Brown)

San Antonio top 3 - Duncan, Parker, Thomas (Edge - Even)
San Antonio top 4 - Duncan, Parker, Thomas, Finley (Edge - Warriors, bench - San Antonio)

Utah top 3 - Boozer, Williams, Kirilenko (Edge - Utah?, bench - Utah but getting closer, especially if we use 10-11 players including Webber)
Utah top 4 - Boozer, Williams, Kirlenko, Okur (Edge - Utah but not if we use Brandon in our starting 5, I think we're at least equal)

Lakers top 3 - Kobe, Gasol, Odom (Edge - obviously Lakers)
Lakers top 4 - Kobe, Gasol, Odom, Bynum (when he returns) (Edge - Lakers but Warriors bench may have a slight edge if utilized properly)

Dallas top 3 - Dirk, Howard, Kidd (Edge - Warriors slight)
Dallas top 4 - Dirk, Howard, Kidd, Terry (Edge - Warriors , plus bench)

Houston - McGrady, Battier, Scola (Edge - Warriors, bench even although Houston's better utilized)
Houston - McGrady, Battier, Scola, Alston (definite Edge - Warriors)

New Orleans - Paul, West, Chandler (Edge - Charlotte, bench - Warriors)
New Orleans - Paul, West, Chandler, Stoyakovic (Edge - Warriors)

Portland - Roy, Aldridge, Blake (Edge - Warriors, bench - Portland (do not start their best 5).
Portland - Roy, Aldridge, Blake, Przbilla (Edge - Warriors)

Phoenix - Nash, Stoudemire, Shaq (Edge - even, bench - even)
Phoenix - Nash, Stoudemire, Shaq, Barbosa (Edge - even) *Warriors now have a decided chemistry advantage.

Denver - AI, Carmelo, Camby (Edge - Denver on paper, bench - Warriors slightly but better utilized)
Denver - AI, Carmelo, Camby, Martin (Edge - Warriors)

This is my best shot at it, please feel free to inject your opinions. The point of this post is to show that the Warriors matchup (talent wise with the best in the league with exceptions being the Lakers and Utah (unfortunately both are in our conference) so the fact that we're doing as good as we are should be should not be that great of a surprise and really should be expected (with this talent base) so don't get upset with some of us who may not seem satisfied some of the time. There's no reason we shouldn't be doing this good and couldn't be doing better.

edit: Added San Antonio
edit 2: Changed San Antonio, now starting Duncan, Parker, Thomsa, Finley, Bowen, Ginobli once again coming off bench.
edit 3: fixed some typos

When doing a comparison you should start at the top and that is SA

SA Duncan,Ginobli,Parker I would put ahead of GS
Pho Nash, O Neil, Stoudmire is also ahead as well.

I do think you overate the GS bench. Key contributers Barnes bounced around for a number of years, Pietrus could not get a good pct of the MLE
Webber is a fading talent. Azubuike was undrafted NBDL find.

Also key to the comparison how dominant a player is.

Davis despite one of his best seasons couldn't get into the all star game.
To give him a number I would rank him somewhere in the 20's as one of the top players. A Duncan, Mc Grady, Bryant are in the top 5

Key think to notice is how their "good players" are all bigger than our "good players"

Added San Antonio - fixed

Regarding the bench, I think that if the right players (Barnes, Al, Pietrus, Croshere, Bukie and even CWeb when he returns) become fixed as backup players (instead of all the lineup changes made by Nellie with the starters) they would be a pretty effective group (as long as he finds a way to give them all the time necessary to keep them sharp).

The only reason Baron didn't get into the ASG is because of politics. Every analyst pretty much agrees Baron has been a top 10 player this year. Mid 20's is players like Roy or Ray Ray, who are far worse than Baron.

i believe our top 3 are the closest to average 20 ppg each??? (TMC was the last trio to accomplish this in the NBA, not just Warriors???)
Lets Go Baron Davis...i dont care what jersey you put on. Lets go.
Big Smooth is focused and ready to handle the centers of the league.
Curry and Ellis will be a top 5 back court this season. 6/25/2010

Return to Golden State Warriors
