What do you think will happen to our bench next year?
I hope we don't go through this year's bench situation again. That said, we could have 4-5 new bench guys.
Webb, MP, Barnes, Cro, CJ could/should be gone (POB gone is a given).
So who could we go after for our bench? FA, trade, or...?
Lasme, Benson, Q. Ross?
Any realistic trade possibilities?
Discuss.

We won't have no bench, they're all free agents (Cohan saving all his pennies to sign Monta). We can staff up from next year's crop of D leaguers and round out our team that way.

Couldn't get any worse... unless we actually start playing Wright again, who literally was bringing us back into the game before the vets froze him out...
The end of the game was funny, watching whoever first got the ball somewhat near the 3pt line got to shoot it... it looked like the end of a series of pickup games when everyone's too tired to give a
Meanwhile Wright was (trying to) screening and rolling, getting position down low, high post, 12 feet out... didn't even get looked at.
You want to know what the #1 problem with our bench is? Selfishness. Everyone is playing for a contract for next season. Barnes wants the multiyear deal, Pietrus is a moron who thinks he can be an allstar, Buke's a developmental player whos in a system flaunting the talent he does have, CJ doesn't want to see the D-League again, Croshere doesn't want to coach yet... there's zero incentive for them to help out the rookie on the court at all.
So as I said.... it really can't get worse.

Can't get worse? Hell it can't. We have guys with a history of some 10-20 pt games. We have guys who can run and know the system. Next yeear may be Jasekavicus X 5 for a bench. I expect our bench WILL get worse. I'm hopeful we don't have a big backslide and HOPE Nellie suddenly wants to play strangers and rookies and that there's 3-4 walkons out there better than the average NBA backup.
We HAVE a potentially GOOD bench which we have not developed or used effectively and we may downgrade the talent substantially. That's something to worry about. What happens if we have a major injury?
How do we run a fast pace with just a 6 man rotation?

The "replacements? " They will be ALSO guys on a temp contract with little sense of being more than passing through.
CENSORED... No comment.

No we do not have a good bench. What we have is maybe the best bench you can buy at McMinimum wage. There are at most two guys 7-10 who are even halfway qualified for a multi-year NBA deal, but realitically not. Barnes deserves something for his effort level and heart, but his skill level is still not much to write home about and ever other GM said so this past summer. Pietrus has multi-year deal athleticism and some Babock/Thomas/Kohl type buffoon will take the bait, but his selfishness and stupidity aren't worth a Gatorade callup. After that we have NOTHING that any other western playoff team would be interested in. If any of Bukie, Cro or CJ sign a multi year with any NBA team over .500 this summer, I'll eat my keyboard.
That's 5 players who are here primarily because THEY COULD BE HAD for peanuts. That says as much about the talent level as needs to be said. Downgrading the talent? This bench is already the lowest common denomenator in the leauge. (Except I suppose for Shelden
.) I can only pray that once the Dre and Tay deals are signed that we are willing to take on some salary to find two more real live NBA grown ups to protect us from this stuff in the future.
A good team SHOULD develop drafted talent. MIGHT find ONE 10 day gem due to injury. Those are rational expectations. But filling out 4-5 slots on a playoff roster with guys that didn't make the cut in any of the 435 other spots in the league is a bassackwards way to go about deepening the roster for a contender.
